

Melvin Motley, 77, was a native Houstonian and a resident since 2002 of Pearland, Texas. He was born on August 2, 1941 to Doyle Dendy and Elizabeth Monroe Motley and died on August 24, 2018. He was married to DeAnn Motley for 55 years. They attended Park Place United Methodist Church and since 2003 1st United Methodist in Pearland, Texas. Melvin had a career as an accountant for Southern Pacific Railroad. He was a 1959 graduate of Milby High School. Melvin was a member of Junior Achievement and the Board of Directors of SPCO Federal Credit Union. He was a lay minister, a Youth Group Sunday School teacher, and an Adult Sunday School teacher at Park Place Methodist Church. Melvin was a baseball coach, baseball team father, and Milby High School Band Parents Club President. He sung in the choir at church for 50 years. Most of all, he was an avid fisherman and loved to camp. His kids and grandkids were the joys of his life, and he will be greatly missed by them.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Melvin is survived by his sons Richard A. Motley and his wife Emily and David W. Motley and his wife Kelli; grandchildren Heather Stegent and her husband Dwayne, Zachary Motley, Bradley Motley, Darrin Motley and fiancée Cassie Godfrey, Nathan Rangel, Krista Richard and her husband Chad, Amber Foster and Mikey Coursey, Dillon Eastman, Lauren Samuels and her husband Wayne, Davon Eastman and his wife Jaycee, Kristen Motley, Miranda Motley, and Delaney Motley; along with 8 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598. A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 26, 2018 with interment in Forest Park East Cemetery.
