Neil Jeffrey Davidson, 71, of El Lago, TX, and Washington, DC, passed away on November 19, 2023. He cherished family and was a devoted husband and father. He was kind and selfless, had an amazing sense of humor, and will be deeply missed.
Neil was born in Chicago, IL, on June 3, 1952, son of Kenneth and Marilyn Cohn Davidson. He grew up in Mobile, AL, graduated from Davidson High School, and received a degree in mathematics and an MBA from the University of Texas. As a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, he had a successful career as an actuary in Chicago, New Orleans, and Houston. One of the great joys of his career was being part of the innovation and collaborative culture of Western National Life during the 2000s in Houston.
He met his wife, Julie Robinson, shortly after she arrived in Houston through Alumni events of the National Youth Science Camp; they married in 1998. His pride and joy was their daughter Maggie, who was the center of his life, supporting her evolving interests as soccer, band, and dance dad. He was active in leading services at the small historic Congregation K’Nesseth Israel in Baytown, TX. He had trained in standup comedy and never missed a chance for a well-timed low-key joke. In his spare time, he loved to play golf and never missed a day without completing the New York Times crossword puzzle.
Neil is survived by his loving wife, Julie, his daughter, Maggie, his brother, Clifford Davidson of Knoxville, TN, and his sister, Patti Davidson, Alexandria, VA, who donated her kidney to Neil in 1991 and gave him the gift of life for the last 32 years. He is also mourned by the Robinson family, Sue Ann Robinson of El Lago TX, Heather (and John) Brann of Portland, OR, and Maren Robinson (and Rom Barkhordar) of Chicago, IL.
A memorial service will be held on November 22 at 2:00pm at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to National Youth Science Academy (www.nysacademy.org) or Donate Life America (www.donatelife.net)
