Tom was born in Brownsville, Texas on August 1, 1935 to Alexander Thomas "Spike" Harvey Jr (an engineer) and Louie Earline Harvey (nee Strachan) (homemaker). Although an only child, Tom had a close extended family, and lived next-door to his grandmother and great-grandparents in Galveston, Texas and spending lots of time with aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
In his teens, his parents relocated to Monterrey, Mexico due to his father's job. Tom spent a short while at school in Monterrey, but returned to Ball High School in Galveston, and graduated in 1954 and was a member of the Corps. Following high school, Tom took classes at various colleges including Texas A&M in College Station before enlisting in the US Army in 1957. Tom spent three years in Mannheim, West Germany as a Private First Class and during this time he met his first wife Diane, while on leave in London, England. They were married in 1959 and after he finished his military service, they settled in Beaumont, Texas, then Houston, Texas.
In 1963, Tom and Diane Harvey moved to Northamptonshire, England to run a small village store and gas station and their first daughter Nicola was born in 1966, followed by their daughter Andrea in 1968. The family moved outside of London where Tom worked as a computer technician and following the breakdown of the marriage Tom returned to Houston in 1976.
Tom’s daughters adored him, missed him greatly and they looked forward to visiting every summer. They have many happy memories of time with their father who was always keen for some fun, spending time on his boat, trips to the movies, bowling competitions, cards, board games, and introducing his daughters to his love of international cuisine. There was always lots of teasing and laughter during their visits.
In 1982, Tom was fortunate to meet the love of his life, Barbara and they were married on July 15, 1983, residing in Galveston and eventually moving to Friendswood. Tom and Barbara enjoyed traveling and visiting with distant cousins and family. Tom especially looked forward to seeing his cousin, Jerry Leblanc, who was like a brother and a lifelong friend. Upon retiring from Halliburton as a computer analysis, Tom kept himself busy working as a car sales person and held various retail jobs. Tom had a variety of interests - an avid reader, DIY enthusiast, lover of western classic movies and history, a loyal Texans fan and always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Tom and Barbara were active in their church, including volunteering, and their church connection group.
Tom was a kind and caring soul. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Barbara, daughters Nicola Harvey and Andrea Harvey Miller in England. His stepchildren, Jack Regan, Diane Regan Hecht (Kris) and Thomas Regan (Tabitha) in Texas. His granddaughter Synamon in England, his grandchildren Hannah, Morgan, Colton, Peyton, and Jonathan in Texas. His great-granddaughters Liliana and Elodie in England, Arwen and Ellery in Texas, extended family and many friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Alexander Thomas Harvey Jr and Louie Harvey.
