Patty was born the oldest of seven children to Frank and Marie (McSweeney) Givens in Wilmington, DE. She grew up in Newark, DE and attended both public and Catholic grade schools. She graduated from Newark HS in 1962 then attended and graduated from the University of Delaware in 1966. She has remained a “true blue,” fighting Blue Hen until the very end. She followed her family to Texas with her son, Michael, aka Vik and her daughter Lisa in 1967 and the family settled into South Houston. Patty divorced and later remarried David Moore in 1982 and made their home in Pasadena, TX. They enjoyed a long and loving marriage filled with many great memories of family, friends and the many places their travels took them. Patty worked for Montgomery Wards as a Personnel Mgr. and then in the Tax Dept. of the TX Workforce Commission until her retirement from the State. Patty was devoted to her Catholic faith and was a longtime member of both St. Francis Cabrini and St. Augustine parishes, with the latter being her final earthly community of faith. Patty was very involved in many different ministries, but truly loved to sing and to teach. She was an active catechist for RCIA as well as being a Lector and Extraordinary Minister of Communion up until the time of her death. In the true spirit of ecumenism, she was also very active and involved with her daughter Lisa’s family at the House of Prayer Lutheran Church. Patty was preceded in death by both her parents and her youngest brother, Matthew. She is survived by her husband, David Moore, her children Vik Deveroux, Lisa Hagemeister and husband Troy, Todd and Jennifer Moore, grandchildren Austin, Kaley and Elise Hagemeister, Lindsay Moore Heath, Emily Moore, and Anica Crews. Also, her siblings Michael Givens (Kathleen) of NH, Marty Givens (Sue) of NY, Dcn. Terry Givens (Susan) of OK, Karen Martin (Earl) and Kathleen Buckler of Houston. As well as her very many nieces and nephews and their children, whom she loved and enjoyed being with and watching them grow. Patty lived her life as a good and faithful servant to the Lord and truly lived her life imitating her Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved people, especially those she served. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and leaves a legacy of “faith with works.” A Vigil and Rosary service will be held at 6:30pm Friday, Sept. 20 and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Saturday, Sept. 21. Both services will be at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 5560 Laurel Creek Way, Houston, TX 77017. Please dress casually for both the Vigil and the Funeral Mass.
