
Born on February 23, 1941, in Chanute, Kansas, Richard was raised in Hillsboro, Texas. He was the beloved son of the late Cecil and Rose Hollenshead. A proud alumnus of the University of Texas, Richard earned both his Bachelor of Science and his master’s degree in chemical engineering. His sharp mind led to a distinguished, decades-long career in chemical engineering. He retired after years of dedicated service with Ethyl Corp, which later transitioned into Albemarle, and finally BP Amoco.
Richard’s life was grounded in his deep faith and love for community. He was a devout and active member of Saint Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church. Beyond his career and faith, Richard was a man of diverse interests. He was an avid golfer and a passionate runner whose dedication culminated in the remarkable feat of completing a marathon. In his quieter moments, he thoroughly enjoyed solving Sudoku puzzles, traveling both domestically and internationally, and relaxing with a good martini.
Above all, Richard cherished his family. He shared 43 beautiful, loving years of marriage with his devoted wife, Elva Hollenshead.
He is survived by his four daughters: Debe (Randy) Jenkins, Sherri (Kevin) Daly, Vicki (John) Flook, and Marci Hollenshead. He also leaves behind his brother, Bernie Hollenshead; his sister, Gail Stinson; as well as 11 cherished grandchildren and 12 adored great-grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Christina (JR) Galindo, and his parents, Cecil and Rose Hollenshead.
Visitation will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598, US, on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
