Bob “Bull” Woods, 92, of Nassau Bay, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by loved ones, on Valentine’s Day.
Robert Joseph Woods was born in Houston, November 7, 1933, to Joseph and Grace Wood. He was raised in Houston’s Northside and graduated from Jeff Davis High School. Bob continued his education at Sam Houston State University and earned his Bachelor of Science in Geology from Lamar State College of Technology in 1957.
His professional career began at Texaco where he interpreted seismic data. He later founded AWC, Inc. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, demonstrating the entrepreneurial spirit that would define much of his career. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Bob traveled extensively throughout the Middle East, forging strong professional partnerships and lasting friendships. In 1983, he established his own company, Woods Industries, where he remained actively involved until his late eighties - a testament to his dedication, drive, and love of meaningful work.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob was known for his zest for life and adventurous spirit. A longtime resident of Nassau Bay and member of Lakewood Yacht Club, he found joy and freedom sailingwith family and dear friends. His charismatic laugh, generous nature, and deep appreciation for life left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He would meet some of his favorite LYC cronies for lunch on a regular basis emphasizing how he treasured relationships.
Bob traveled the world, embraced new experiences, and lived each chapter of his life fully. He enjoyed woodworking and took great pride in creating unique gifts for family and friends. He also had a deep love of music and at the remarkable age of eighty, he taught himself to play the banjo, proving it is never too late to learn something new or follow a passion.
He was a man of wide-ranging passions and boundless curiosity. An avid sailor, he found peace on the open water and loved exploring the depths while scuba diving. Similarly, he found exhilaration carving down snowy slopes or riding his motorcycle along the open road. Beneath his adventurous spirit was a sharp and inquisitive mind. He was always eager to connect with others near and far with amateur radio and social media. Fascinated by innovation, he immersed himself in computer science and emerging technologies, continuing to text, email and invest in the world of bitcoin even in his final days. His adventurous spirit, sharp mind, and willingness to navigate both oceans and ideas made him truly one of a kind.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Ann; his daughter; Leslie Rich and grandchildren Callie and Griffin; daughter Lisa Vogel (Robert) and granddaughter Elle; daughter Julie Woods (Mike) and grandchildren Vincent, Joseph, Olivia and Blair; bonus daughter Whitley Levy (Billy) and grandchildren Palmer and Margot; bonus daughter Ashley Brown (Michael) and grandchildren Taylor and John. Bob “Bull” Woods will be remembered for his adventurous heart, enduring friendships, and the love he shared so generously with family and friends. He has taken his final voyage beyond the horizon. Though we cannot see the harbor he has reached, we know the seas are calm and the winds are fair. His steady hand on the helm guided us through storm and stillness alike, and his course remains charted in our hearts.
