Ruby King

Ruby Pearl (Watkins) King, 95, departed this earth on February 9, 2012 at Alhambra Nursing Home in Alhambra, Illinois. She was born on November 16, 1916 to Hill and Pearl (Luper) Watkins in Elk City, Oklahoma. As a teenager she met Elliot King at a church wiener roast and they later married on March 18, 1934. They welcomed their son Robert “Bobby” Young King on September 10, 1936 in Drumwright, Oklahoma. Together they survived the Great Depression while living in a car and travelling state to state working on the pipeline. Eventually settling in Bayview, Texas in the 1940’s, they became active members of Bayshore Friends Church. Ruby went to nursing school at Elliot’s insistence on getting an education. After graduating she worked at Houston Methodist hospital on the heart patient floor for 25 years and then retired. She had a reputation of being “little but mighty”. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Bob & Sue King of Bayview, Texas. Grandchildren; Kellie King of Marine, Illinois, Robert & Linda King of Bayview , Texas, and Jason & Dawn King of Kemah, Texas. Her great grandchildren; Amy & Clayton Warren of Jerseyville, Illinois, Joel Perkins of Dallas, Texas, Jana & Will Daniels of Fort Hood, Texas, Austin King of Bayview, Texas, Megan & Joe Mai of Louisville, Kentucky, and Emily King of Manchester, Tennessee. Her great great grandchildren; CJ& Rachel Warren, Aubri & Cooper Daniels and Aiden & Maddie Mai. Many nieces, nephews and other family members. In addition to her husband and her parents she is preceded in death by her sisters; Mamie Gann of Arkansas, Jenny Lou Ford of Texas, and Lorita Bookout of Kansas. Her brothers; Cleo Watkins of Oklahoma, Robert Watkins of Oklahoma and Gene Williams of Texas. Ruby loved the Lord, her family, church, friends and animals. Ruby wasa never ashamed to tell anyone she accepted Christ as her savior when she was a young girl. She was very proud of her husband, son and grandchildren. As an active member in her church, she attended when the doors were open, teaching classes and singing in the choir. She could often be found feeding lone animals that had no home. Her family and friends have no doubt she is currently in the Lord’s presence and because of Christ’s Sacrifice on the cross, we have the assurance of seeing her again. Visitation will be from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm on Saturday, February 18, at Forest Park East, services will follow at 12:30pm.
