Russell worked many years over seas in the oil and gas industry and upon returning to the states, he purchased and ran a gas station. He had many passions in life and loved traveling overseas, music, the water, and visiting old friends. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Godwin, brother, Jim Godwin, and sister, Elsie Dale.
He is survived by nephews Jim Godwin of Kennard, Texas and Tim Godwin of Pasadena, Texas, as well as nieces Rosemary Stafford of Hemphill, Texas, and Patti Von Tungeln of Sugar Land, Texas.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway Webster, Texas 77598. Interment in Forest Park East Cemetery with a reception to follow back at the funeral home.
