Ruth Kate Roberts Nicholson

Mrs. Ruth Kate Nicholson entered into God’s Kingdom on April 12, 2013 after living a century and 18 days on earth. She has resided with her daughter, Diane Cooper and son-in-law, Ronnie Cooper in Montgomery, Texas for the past 15 years. She left her long time residence in Dickinson, Texas in 1998 from where she lived for 50 years.

Ruth, daughter of Bruce and Alice Roberts, was born in Moline, Texas on March 25, 1913. She graduated from Gatesville High School in 1933 and later earned a business degree from James McNeese Junior College in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She married Sylvian (Nick) Everett Nicholson, Sr. on June 14, 1941 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. They met while Ruth was playing in a women’s basketball league. They adopted two children, son Sylvian (Nicki) Everett Nicholson, Jr. and daughter Diane Cooper. Ruth has been a member of First Baptist Church in Dickinson for the past 60 years. Ruth retired from Lipton Tea where she worked as a bookkeeper. After retiring, she also worked for the Sears catalog store in Dickinson, Texas.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents, husband, son, and grandson Keith Cooper. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Cooper; son-in-law Ronnie Cooper; grandchildren Darrell Nicholson, Tina McEntire, Kim Gordon, Darin Nicholson, Angela Mayon-Hofmann, Danny Mayon, Darick Nicholson, Keith Nicholson, and Sylvian (Toby) Everett Nicholson, III; 23 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.

The services will be held at Forest Park East Funeral Home Chapel at 12:30pm on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, with interment to follow in Forest Park East Cemetery. Pastor Mark Parker will officiate.

Pallbearers are Jeff McEntire, Darrell Nicholson, Darin Nicholson, Darick Nicholson, Danny Mayon, and Sylvian (Toby) Everett Nicholson, III. Honorary pallbearers are nephews Doyle Nicholson and Donnie Nicholson.
