Lou was raised by his grandmother in his early years as his mom and dad were both involved in WWII. His dad was in the Navy and his mom was a civil servant stationed in California. He always said that his grandmother was the greatest woman that ever lived. He attended Baytown Lee High School where he played numerous sports.
Lou went to work for Dow Chemical soon after graduating from high school and met his life-long partner and love of his life, Judith Rice. They were married in October of 1961. They purchased a small house in Pearland about the time their son Michael was born. Lou always said that was one of the hardest times in his life. He had a new baby, a new house and happened to be out of work.
He soon went to work at Monsanto Chemicals where he went on to become the youngest foreman ever promoted at that plant. His promotion details were placed on the marquis at Alvin State Bank. A second son, Patrick, was born a few years later. In 1970 he moved his family to Friendswood as they needed to accommodate their third child, Jennifer. She was the only girl, and she was definitely a daddy’s girl.
Lou was involved in coaching and managing in a majority of the youth sports in Friendswood. He was even the Commissioner of the Friendswood Baseball League for a few years. He touched the lives of so many kids over the years.
One of his favorite times was when he went to Italy for work. His wife went with him, and they spent a wonderful 4 months over there. He loved to fish and golf and as his children moved on, he relocated to Wildwood in East Texas. His house was on the golf course, and there was a lake in the community. He was in Hog Heaven. He could roll out of his driveway straight on to the golf course and go fishing whenever he wanted. Around that time, he also became a grandfather. He loved his family very much. He was always involved with his children and grandchildren. As his grandchildren were becoming older, he moved back to the area and settled in Dickinson. He would attend almost everything that they did. From ball games to recitals and plays to award ceremonies. He was always there to support his family.
He was preceded in death by his son Patrick Boyd Heidemann, son in law Al Carlin and grandson, Zachary Jenkins.
He will be deeply missed by wife Judith, son Mike Heidemann and wife Deena, daughter Jennifer Carlin and daughter in law Talaurie Heidemann. All of his beloved grandchildren Melanie, Emillie, Trey, Shelly and Katie. His great grandchildren Casey, Ava, Jamey, Cass and Ainsley. brothers David, Marc and Joel and sister Becky and their families.
