Sherry S. Carter

February 15, 1947October 10, 2020

Sherry Skearton Carter, 73, of League City passed away peacefully, into the arms of our gracious God on October 10, 2020. She will be remembered for her love of family, joyful spirit, and ability to make friends with anyone she met. Sherry was born in Houston, TX and worked in the Pasadena Independent School District for over 25 years. She was a first grade teacher at Atkinson Elementary and a first grade teacher and peer facilitator at Jensen Elementary. She dearly loved her students and coworkers, many of whom remain close friends. Sherry enjoyed her daily walks in her neighborhood (running into friends along the way,) yoga, meditation, fishing, spending time outside (watching hummingbirds and sunsets,) baking, reading, traveling, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Sherry taught many life lessons to her children and grandchildren and her "Mee-Oisms" will be something they carry with them always. She is preceded in death by her father Stan Skearton, her mother Dottie Skearton, and her brother John Skearton. Sherry is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Don Carter, daughter Carrie Meador and husband Trey; daughter Kellie Brumbaugh and husband Lee; granddaughters Kate and Claire Meador and Reese Brumbaugh; and grandson Jack Brumbaugh. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Methodist Hospital and The Harbour Hospice for their compassion and excellent care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

I'm so sorry to hear of your mom passing. She was such a wonderful person and I know she will continue to live in the hearts and souls of your family. Sherry was such a blessing to my family. She taught my children in elementary school. Most especially she was a friend of my wife (Janet Reed). Sherry was such a big help to Janet and our family when Janet was diagnosed with breast cancer. Sherry had such a great personality and I doubt she ever met a stranger. I know she will be missed but never forgotten. I know I will never forget her.

I only knew her as Mrs. Carter, as she was my 1 st grade teacher at Atkinson some 49 years ago. I have always remembered her after all these years. My mother shared her memory of the school carnival. My mom and Mrs. Carter tended the goldfish booth the whole time because the other mothers did not show up. Mrs. Carter remained sweet and happy visiting with my mom, students, and other parents.

Mrs. Carter was my 1st grade teacher in 92-93 at Jensen. She was by far the most memorable and favorite teacher of all of my school years. I have many fond memories of her well past my 1st grade year and loved her dearly. I am heartbroken over the news of her passing. My deepest condolences go out to her loved ones.

Melissa and I have prayed for you, your dad, and your family. We pray for God’s peace during this difficult time. We only met your mom one time when we ran into y’all at Baybrook Mall during the Christmas season. Daughters are a reflection of their mothers, so we can assume Sherry was a strong yet sweet woman. Our condolences during this most difficult time. - Doug & Melissa Moore

We always knew her as Claire’s grandma, but she felt like all of our mom and grandma. Every time I would see her at the games, she made me fee like I was part of the family and she truly cared about us. We are so blessed to have known her and visit with her all of these years. So gorgeous and outgoing with a stunning smile! Sydney would remark on her sweetness and how well she treated all the girls.
She will truly be missed and we love y’all.
Prayers to your family.

I met Sherry at Jensen Elementary in 2000. I will never forget the affirmations she gave me and the Sherry smile that went with her loving words. I will miss you, Sherry! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
