Shirley was born on April 8, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, to James and Velma Pace. While still very young, her family moved to Galena Park, Texas, where she would build a life rooted in faith, family, friendship, and enduring love.
It was in Galena Park that Shirley met the love of her life, Billy G. Husemann. They married in March 1957 and shared nearly 70 wonderful years together, building a life filled with devotion, laughter, resilience, and countless cherished memories.
Shirley’s greatest joy was her family. She dedicated her early years to raising her four sons — James, Michael, Mark, and Kevin — providing them with unwavering love, guidance, and strength. Later, she proudly spent 27 years working with the Galena Park School District in the cafeteria at North Shore Elementary, where she formed lasting friendships and lovingly served generations of children with kindness and care.
In 2002, Shirley moved to Galveston, where she embraced life by the coast and created many treasured friendships and happy memories. She found peace and happiness at the beach, loved tending to flowers and admiring their beauty, and had a special place in her heart for dogs throughout her life. Those simple joys reflected her gentle spirit and the warmth she shared so naturally with others. She had a beautiful smile, a joyful laugh, and a way of making people feel welcomed and loved.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved son, Mark Husemann, whose memory she carried closely in her heart throughout her life.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, Billy Husemann; her sons, James, Michael, and Kevin Husemann; daughters-in-law Chris McKinney and Jerri Husemann; grandchildren Steven Husemann, Jason Husemann, Samantha Husemann, Ashley Duncan, Ryan Husemann, Kyra Husemann, Blake Husemann, and Austin Husemann; and 10 cherished great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense pride and joy to her life.
Shirley will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for the kindness she shared, the love she gave so freely, and the lasting impact she made on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas.
