Steve Eiland, 89, passed away on May 9, 2026. Born on August 6, 1936, Steve lived a long life marked by steady devotion to his work, deep love for family, and the kind of everyday presence that leaves a lasting imprint on a community. He was a resident of Texas City, Texas.
From the time he was just 15 years old, Steve worked as a barber—a calling he carried throughout his life. In the chair and behind it, he offered more than a haircut: he gave time, attention, conversation, and a familiar sense of welcome. His days were shaped by work done well and done faithfully, and his life reflected a simple strength—showing up, serving others, and doing so with pride.
Music also ran through Steve’s life. He played bass guitar and, true to his independent spirit, he taught himself how to play. That self-made musicianship spoke to the quiet determination he carried—an ability to learn, to keep at something until it became his own, and to find joy in the rhythm of a song and the steadiness of a bass line.
Steve’s greatest legacy is found in the family he loved. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Eiland, and remembers with enduring love his son, Steven Eiland, who passed in November 2023. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jenea Parks and Jazz Alexander Eiland, and by his great-grandsons, Jaylen Kendrick and Robin Alexander Eiland, as well as the mother of his children, Jeanette Chapman, two ex wives, Ella and Riva, and his close friend, Jeanette. Steve also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends—an extended circle of people touched by his life, his work, and his warm familiarity.
He is preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Ruth Eiland and Hattie Mae Applewhite, and his brothers, Walter Jr., Archie Lee, Fred, Elmer, and Jack Eiland.
In remembering Steve, may those who knew him hold close the familiar blessings of his life: the steadiness of his hands at work, the music he made through his own determination, and the enduring love he carried for his family. His life is one to celebrate—well-lived, deeply rooted, and remembered with gratitude.
