Susie Noriega Moreno, 93, passed away to be with our Lord on Sunday, February 5, 2023. Born in San Antonio, Texas on February 5, 1930, Susie moved to Houston, TX at 6 months old where she was raised with her dearest brother, Joe Noriega, in Houston’s Second Ward by their Grandmother, Ignacia “Grandma Nacha” Noriega. Susie’s birth name was Maria De Jesus Noriega, but friends and family knew her as Susie or Sue. She was a child of the Depression and learned to live with modest means, but lived life to its fullest. At 19 years old, Susie married her brother’s best friend, A. Frank Moreno, Jr. Susie and Frank were married for 62 years before Frank passed away in 2014. Together, Susie and Frank had nine children which they raised under their Catholic faith (St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church) and strong family values. All of their children attended and graduated from Pasadena ISD schools. While Frank worked as a Schlitz Beer truck driver and shared his time as an ordained Catholic Deacon, Susie spent most of her time raising their children with love and discipline.
Susie was smart, had a great sense of humor, was an outstanding cook, made dresses for the girls, taught each child how to read and write, was talented with art and crafts, and always nursed anyone that was sick back to health. Her love was unwavering, but she demanded good behavior. She was the rock of the family and was always willing to share her wisdom. Susie had many friends, was very social and was loved by everyone that met her. Her greatest legacy and achievement was raising her children to be productive, honest, and loving adults. Susie and Frank were responsible for generations of children to include numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Susie is preceded in death by her husband A. Frank Moreno, Jr. (Houston, TX), her son, Billy Moreno (survived wife Cathy Moreno, New Braunfels, TX), and her brother, Jose “Joe” Noriega (survived wife Tommie Noriega, Houston, TX).
Surviving children include Cynthia Georg (husband Tim Georg, San Marcos, TX), Deborah Watts (deceased husband Dean Watts, New Braunfels, TX), Brenda Mitchell (Houston, TX), Frank Moreno (wife Debra Moreno, Houston, TX), Roger Moreno (wife Linda Moreno, Pearland, TX), Tricia Ford (husband James Ford, Liverpool, TX), Terri Hlavaty (husband Larry Hlavaty, Pasadena, TX), and Brian Moreno (wife Christine Moreno, Budapest, Hungary) and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank Gruene Senior Living in Gruene, TX where Susie lived her last year. Susie enjoyed her new friends and the friendly and helpful staff that looked after her.
A rosary will be on Monday, February 13, 2023, 9:00 am at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Houston, TX with a visitation to follow from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. A funeral mass will start at St. Francis Cabrini at 10:30 am and committal to follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, TX. A reception to follow the committal back at St. Francis Cabrini.
