Tommy was born on February 24, 1960, in Wichita Falls, Texas to Marion Edwards Wheeler and Maxine Millar Wheeler. He graduated from Sam Rayburn in 1978 and soon after started his career at Houston Lighting and Power. He eventually retired from CenterPoint Energy in 2020, after an illustrious 40-year career. Tommy had a deep passion for spending time with his family, watching NASCAR, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros, mastering the pit and smoking meats.
Tommy is preceded in death by his mother Maxine Wheeler, his sister Vicki Wheeler Delahunt, and beloved daughter Ashley Elizabeth Wheeler.
Tommy is survived by his wife Shannon, his oldest daughter Heather Dunnbier and her husband Matthew of League City, Texas, his father Ed Wheeler and his wife Dorothy of Stillwater, Oklahoma, his sister Valerie and her husband Pete Farris of Sherman, Texas, his mother-in-law Wanda Hanks of Houston, Texas, his brother-in-law James Petty of Houston, Texas, his grandchildren, Wyatt Dunnbier, Bella and Coral Rodriguez, and Fleetwood Bush, numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of loving family and friends, including many from his years working as a dedicated lineman.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 20, from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. CT. The service will take place on Wednesday, May 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home located at 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Tommy will be dearly missed by all who knew him and loved him. His kindness, laughter, and presence touched the lives of so many.
