Born in Galveston, Texas, on February 22, 1948, to Jim and Margarita Garcia, Tommie lived a life full of faith, hard work, creativity, and deep love for her family.
She began her career at Grumman, where she proudly worked on the manufacturing line producing wiring harnesses for the F-14 Tomcat fighter jet. After retiring from Grumman, she held several jobs that reflected her many talents—serving as a cashier at Wyatt’s Cafeteria, a florist at Randall’s, and a baker at Kroger. Her passion for baking eventually led her to Friendswood ISD, where she became the beloved baker at Friendswood High School. Known affectionately to students and staff as “Tommie,” she was famous for her school rolls and warm smile, retiring once again after years of dedicated service.
Tommie expressed her love through cooking. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, filled with the aromas of her delicious meals and baked goods. She also had a gift for sewing and arranging flowers—her home was always brightened with fresh floral arrangements.
She was a devoted member of Cristo Para Todos (CPT) in Alvin, Texas, where she served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher and supported her church in any way she could.
Tommie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Julio Galvan; her youngest son, Vincent Andrew Galvan; her parents, Jim and Margarita Garcia; her brothers Jim Garcia Jr., Daniel Garcia, Alfredo Garcia, and Jacob Garcia; and her sister Victoria “Vicky” Garcia.
She is survived by her children: daughters Stephanie Galvan and Genevieve Hamric, and son Julian Galvan and his wife Audrey Galvan. She is also survived by her brothers Estevan Garcia and Jose Garcia; sisters Lupe Hernandez, Margaret Cantu, Miquelia Garcia, Juanita Martinez and Frances Rodriguez. Letty Galvan adopted family member and close family friend.
Tommie leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren: Angeleec and Fernando Vargas, Julian I. Galvan, Isaiah and Sadie Moreno, Elijah and Nairobi Galvan, Jacob and Tabitha Galvan, Jillian Galvan, Andrea Hamric, Sarah and Hezekiah Rebeiz, Ashley and Thunder Cardoza, and Joshua and Casandra Hamric, Sofia and Elizabeth Pineda.
She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Liliana, Sofia, Madelyn, Zeke, Julian, Anberlin, Josiah, Vada, Sohaila, Tallulah, Israel, Madelyn, Jesse James, Ryleigh, Josh, Noah, Adonis, Evander, and a precious baby girl, Ellie, on the way.
Tommie’s legacy lives on in the meals she taught others to make, the faith she lived out daily, and the love she poured into her family and community.
