

Violet Mae Garcia, 85, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2015. She was born in Allegany, New York on May 8, 1930 to Frank and Hester Pittman. She was married to Andrew Garcia for 50 years. Violet worked for The United States Navy as a petty officer teletype operator and was in their “leadership school” before becoming a mother and housewife. She was a member of the American Legion Unit 490 and the St. Bernadette Carmeliters. She had a passion for supporting her husband, honoring her country, gambling, bingo, traveling and entertaining, and socializing with her friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Retired U.S. Navy Captain Andrew Garcia; brother Tom; sisters Carrie, Hester, Helen and Naomi. Violet is survived by her children Andrew Jr., Steve, Mike, Tom, and Theresa; as well as her 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother Bill; and sisters Marlene and Mary. Violet will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and QVC. A visitation will be held Friday, August 14, 2015 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home. The celebration of Violet’s life will be held Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home.
