

Our loving husband, father and grandfather, Virgil B. Jewell, Jr., 77, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 23, 2 011. He was born October 12, 1933 in Galveston to the late Virgil and Helen Jewell and is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Garrett Jewell and Marissa Ottosen. Virgil is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Margaret Jewell, daughter Madelene Ottosen and her husband, Doug Ottosen, sons William (Billy) Jewell, Tom Jewell and wife Lisa, and Kenneth Jewell. Sisters Thelma Autrey, Helen Reed and husband Cliff, Barbara Broughton and husband John. Brother, Michael Jewell and four grandchildren, Jessica Jewell-Elliott, Nicholas Jewell, Isabella Jewell and Victoria Jewell, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Virgil graduated from Kerwin High School in Galveston and served in the US Army. Upon leaving the service, Virgil went to work for Houston Lighting & Power, Co. Virgil retired from the Light Company in 1992 after 35 years of service.
Virgil was a true servant of the Lord. He attended St. Pius Catholic Church in Pasadena for over 50 years, serving on parish committees such as parish council, St. Joseph workers and singing in the Choir. He was also a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus for over 40 years. He became a 4th degree Knight, serving in many positions such a Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator and District Deputy. He was instrumental in forming Council 3700 in Pasadena, Texas. One of his favorite activities was the State Basketball Free Throw competition which he faithfully organized for many years.
A visitation for Virgil will be held on Friday, February 25 at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas. The funeral mass will be Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius Catholic Church, 810 S. Main Street in Pasadena, Texas with burial following at Forest Park East Cemetery.
