Cathy lost her courageous battle with breast cancer on January 30, 2016. Cathy had a love for the sea and was able to spend her last days listening to the sounds of the waves and smelling the salt air at their beach house in Port Aransas. She was surrounded by some of her loving family and friends when she passed. Cathy was born in Philadelphia in 1953 to her parents Virginia and George Krebs. Cathy’s father was in the military, and during her early school years she lived in 7 different states and attended 13 different schools. Her Dad retired from the military while they lived in Biloxi, MS. She attended high school in Biloxi where she achieved academic recognition and was active in cheerleading and attended college in both Florida and Texas. Cathy moved to Sugar Land and owned a fashion design store named Slick and Sassy. She was an exceptionally talented designer and seamstress. Cathy then took her fabric and design talents and began a very successful interior design career.
Cathy is survived by her husband Bill, father, George Krebs, daughter, Danielle (Joe) Jiacomin, four children of Bill’s; Christina (Kirk) Baldwin, Rebecca Truscott, Trent (Julie) Truscott and Brian (Elisa) Truscott. Cathy has 5 grandchildren with a 6th due in May. She has one sister, Karen (Ned) Peresich and three brothers; George (Lisa) Krebs, Tom (Margarite) Krebs and JD Krebs (Larry).
Cathy met her husband Bill on a blind date 14 years ago and a wonderful romance bloomed into an exciting, fun-filled, adventuresome life. They were married in March of 2003 at the Bitter End Yacht Club in the British Virgin Islands. Bill too had a love for the sea as an accomplished sailor and Cathy had a desire to learn to sail and explore all of God’s majestic beauties that the sea has to offer. Dolphins, turtles, sunsets, sunrises, and rainbows seemed to bring a childlike joy to her heart displayed by the most gorgeous smile in the world.
Cathy had a love for dancing and participated in several dance groups before meeting Bill. Bill always wanted to learn to dance and Cathy became his most patient teacher. Their joy of developing fun and active dance routines helped them dance in almost every port up and down the east coast, the Florida Keys, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and the Adriatic.
Cathy and Bill explored the seas for over 5 years on their sailboat Moonlight Shadow along with their boat dog, Sassy before returning to Texas to be closer to family and needed support groups.
Cathy and Bill shared a joyful “Love for the Lord” and have been able to share their faith as they traveled the seas. Cathy’s love for people was a true blessing to their marriage as close friends were developed in almost every port. Cathy loved to cook and the sharing of meals were always a highlight and important part of building new friendships and long lasting cruising mates.
Cathy’s Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home. There will be a reception at the funeral home immediately following.
Cathy’s wishes were to have donations made to S.E.A.R.H. Homeless Services in Houston in lieu of flowers.
