He was born January 2, 1953 in Pampa, Texas to Uel and Martha (Hallmark) Hext.
Walter married Christie Edwards in 1985 and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Christie Hext, three children Kyle Oates, Krysta Hext and Lia Hext, one sister Anna Hext, one brother Chris (Terry) Hext, six grandchildren Ethan Hext, Destiney Hext, Kloe Oates, Kane Oates, Avery Oates and Kayden Oates. Also surviving are many cousins as well as his nieces and nephews David Hext, Emma Norman, Jordan Norman, and Tara Yaffe.
He was preceded in death by his father Uel Hext, stepmother Martha Hext, his mother Martha Hallmark-Hext, his mother-in-law Paula Truitt, sister-in law Loretta Norman, and one nephew Michael Hext.
Walter worked as a Pipefitter for many years in the Oil and Gas industry. He dedicated his life to being the most present father figure for his family. Walter was passionate for all things water related—fishing and boating. He enjoyed live music, riding in his jeep with the top down, and making every single person he encountered smile. Walter was a special soul who would give the shirt off his back to anyone who asked; all while making you laugh the entire time. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 30, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home.
