Tog was born on September 22, 1933, in Tyler, Texas, to W. Yandell Rogers and Zelda Alford Rogers Ridgway. He was the oldest of three brothers. Tog graduated from Gainesville High School and the University of North Texas before earning his law degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1961.
After graduating from law school, Tog clerked for Texas Supreme Court Justices Clyde Smith and Joe Greenhill. While in Austin, he was called to active duty with the Air Force. Following his release from active duty, he worked as an associate at Wynne, McKenzie, Jaffe, and Tinsley until 1967.
In 1967, Tog moved to Houston to enter the printing industry at Ridgway's, where he served first as general counsel and later as president. He eventually took the company private and acquired ownership before selling the business to American Reprographic Company in 2000.
In 1987, Tog married Suzie Rogers and they shared 32 wonderful years together. Following Suzie's unexpected passing, he was fortunate to find love and happiness again with Troy Bredthauer. Tog loved and adored Troy, and they spent the final six years of his life traveling, enjoying one another's company, and making memories together.
Tog was a proud father and grandpa to his six children and eleven grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family, whether flying around the country together, taking his grandchildren fishing, or gathering the whole family for holidays and summer vacations. An avid fisherman and boater, Tog had a lifelong love of the water, from fly fishing in Colorado to fishing along the Gulf Coast. He treasured time aboard his many boats and especially enjoyed offshore fishing adventures that took him to Cuba, Panama, the Galápagos Islands, Mexico, Madeira, the Bahamas, Alaska, and beyond.
Tog's generosity extended well beyond his family and friends. Having benefited from the kindness of others during his own education, he believed deeply in helping others pursue opportunities for success. In 2012, he established the W. Yandell “Tog” Rogers, Jr. Endowed Scholarship Fund at SMU Dedman School of Law, reflecting his belief in honoring those who had helped him along the way by extending that same generosity to future generations.
Tog also served on the Executive Board of SMU Dedman School of Law and was recognized with the Charles O. Galvin Award for Service to SMU School of Law in 2013. In 2025, he received the Mustang Award in recognition of his philanthropic support of the university.
His commitment to helping others was also evident in his work with Child Advocates of Houston, where he volunteered as a guardian ad litem for abused children and served on the organization's Endowment Board.
In addition to his parents, Tog is preceded in death by his wife, Suzie Rogers, and his daughters, Leslie Rogers and Christine Rogers.
Tog is survived by his wife, Troy; his children, W. Yandell Rogers III (DeeAnn), Laura Braun (Jerry), Matthew Rogers (Cambrey), and Nicki Osina-Cumbie (Ben); and his beloved grandchildren, Jenna Bissell (Jeff), Megan Guerriero (Reese), Madison Stanke, Brooke Liske (Eugen), Wiley Rogers IV, Zane Rogers, Hannah Mikel (Tanner), Caroline Olsen (Noah), Lindsay Braun, Lauren Rogers, and Ian Farley. He is also survived by four greatgrandchildren; his brothers, Steve Rogers and Bill Rogers; and his stepsister, Tess Ridgway.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tog's memory to Child Advocates of Houston at Make A Gift - Child Advocates.
A celebration of Tog's life will be held on Monday, November 9, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Texas Corinthian Yacht Club, located at 104 Park Circle, Kemah, Texas 77565.
