William Hayes (Bill) Farmer, 80 years, went to be with the Lord on December 20, 2010. He was born August 8, 1930 in Hamilton, Ohio to Edgar Randolph and Ada Meece Farmer. William is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carolyn Ann Farmer. He is survived by his children, Karen Sandu and husband, Eugen; Kevin Farmer and wife, Joan; grandchildren, Marshal Benson and wife, Desiree; Julian Sandu and William Farmer and Great-grandson, Taegan Benson.
William is also survived by his loving children from an earlier marriage, Gary Farmer; Billie Sandefer and husband Larry; Donna Moffit; Terry Farmer and wife, Gloria, and Robert Farmer. Grandchildren are Stephen and Nathan Sandefer, Jason Moffit and Valerie Farmer; Great-grandchildren, Shelby and Stephen Sandefer, Jr., and Kayla Moffit.
He moved to Houston, Texas in spring 1949 to work at Champion Paper International with his dad, Edgar. He retired in 1994 after 45 years as a papermaker, retiring as lead Quality Control Inspector.
William led a very active life. He loved boats. Racing boats in competition and for relaxation. He did off-road cross country racing on his motorcycle and raced stock cars at old Arrowhead Speedway in Houston. He and his wife both participated in sports car rallies. He was a certified scuba diver, played baseball with several teams in Pasadena, Texas. He then started coaching his son Kevin at OFA Little League. He was an accomplished skeet shooter. William supported the Boy Scouts and became an Adult Scouter.
William was a faithful server of God and served faithfully at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church for over 40 years and served the Vestry for 15 years as Jr. Warden. He served St. Barnabas in any capacity necessary. He recently joined St. Thomas The Apostle Episcopal Church and had hoped to become an active member.
William was a man of great faith. He led a full life. When he met a stranger, he left with a friend. He was loved by his family and the many friends acquired over the years. William was very proud of his Native American and Scottish heritage.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 26, 2010, 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway (I-45 S) Webster, Texas. Funeral Service will be at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church, 18300 Upper Bay Road, Houston, Texas, Monday, December 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will be held after the Service. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery.
Donations may be made to St. Barnabas Episcopal Church or to St. Thomas The Apostle Episcopal Church Building Fund in his memory.
