Monette Collmorgen

Willie Monette Collmorgen, 97, of Kennett, Missouri, passed from this life to her heavenly reward on January 3, 2021 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 9th, at 2 pm, with visitation from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Forest Park East 21620 Gulf Freeway in Webster, Texas. Her grandson, David Hankins will officiate. Monette was born in Abbott, Texas to W.M. and Vera Talley on October 21, 1923. She attended high school in McCamey, Texas where she was crowned Homecoming Queen her senior year. She spent most of her adult life as a homemaker, but also helped manage a hotel at McCamey, Tx, worked as a clerk in a cleaners, and after 20 years retired as a PBX Operator at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center in Clear Lake, Texas. She was a lifelong member of the church of Christ and most recently attended the church in Kennett, Missouri. She loved singing, playing her keyboard, caring for her many dogs through the years (Cindy, Bozo, Chico, Fifi), shopping, traveling, reading her bible, and spending time with family. Even though the last few years brought much loss of hearing and some dementia, she persevered with a positive attitude and joyous laughter that lifted up those around her. She was a perfect example of aging with grace! Monette is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, H.R. Maxcey, her second husband A.J. Collmorgen, and her brother, Billy Clyde Talley. Her life has been richly blessed by her surviving descendants: 3 Children: Dr. Bob Maxcey & wife Carol of Durham, North Carolina, Nancy Hankins & husband Danny of Llano, Texas, and June Beck & husband Berley of Kennett, Missouri. 7 Grandchildren: Nathan Maxcey & wife Nicole, Rachel Smith & husband Ryan, Zachary Maxcey & wife Jordan, Drs. Catherine Luedke & husband Matt, Daniel Hankins & wife Jennifer, David Hankins & wife Amber, and Aaron Beck. 12 Great grandchildren: Liam Maxcey, Audrey Monette Smith, Keira Smith, Jake Smith, Sam Luedke, Elise Luedke, Conner Hankins, Caitlyn Hankins, Devin Hankins, Kaylee Hankins, Kyle Hankins, and Deanne Hankins. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ForestParkEast-FHC.com for the Collmorgen family. During the final moments of life, as Monette transitioned into eternity, the song “The Old Rugged Cross” played softly while June held her hand and sang the words, “So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, and exchange it someday for a crown.” Monette loved and cherished that old rugged cross, and today Monette has received her glittering crown!

Mom was a bundle of energy, always ready to travel, shop, dance, or visit. Even when faced with loss of hearing, dementia, and an aging body that ultimately slowed her down, Mom’s beautiful smile, laughter and positive attitude dominated her life! At 97 she constantly demonstrated how to age with grace. I just hope I can follow her example! Love you, Mom! I look forward to your hug and smile when God calls me home!
