Joseph A. Connolly III unexpectedly passed away on August 15 at Cape Cod Hospital. He was born on March 17, 1945, a true St. Patrick’s Day blessing. Joseph spent most of his childhood in Lexington, MA. After graduating from Lexington HIgh School, he pursued his passion as an artist, graduating from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, where he also taught for many years. Joe was also a teaching fellow at the prestigious Arts League of New York.
He is survived by his partner of 50 years, Dr. Robert J. Foy. Joe and Bob were at their happiest spending time at their home in Provincetown, MA.
Joe is also survived by sisters LeeAnne Connolly (Paul Lemelin) of Belchertown, MA and Patricia Coyne (Jeff Jeffers) of Palm Springs, CA. Joe will also be greatly missed by his niece, Samantha Coyne Donnel (James Donnel) of Steamboat Springs, CO.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Joseph A. Connolly II and Madeline Connolly of Lexington, MA.
Joe loved his dogs, the ocean, antiquing, renovating historic homes and building stone walls. He was history buff and an avid ocean swimmer in Provincetown, MA.
Joe’s legacy will continue in the form of his numerous artworks displayed throughout Boston. Joe was employed by news Channels 4, 5, and Channel 7 as an illustrator and courtroom artist for many years. Joe's illustrations were displayed for national and local news associations.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday 8/25 at 11 am at St. Peter’s Church in Provincetown with a small reception immediately following. Services and burial in Lexington, MA will be announced at a later date.
