Lillian DeCroce, beloved mother, nurse to Outer Cape residents, Dies at 83
Nicknamed Lilli, she was a cherished soul with NJ roots from Morris County, but a long family history on the Outer Cape, to which she eventually called home in the 90's. She was surrounded by love in her home in Wellfleet, on Saturday, November 7, by her family after a short illness. Lilli was a star at gardening, she created a beautiful gathering dinner table to welcome friends and family as often as she could, and she had a skill for making memorably delicious Italian homemade dishes. Her heart was full with a son and daughter, both grown and with families in NJ & NY, Andy (Andrew) Kurth married to Kathy Kurth, and Christina (DeCroce) Craig married to Steven Craig of NYC. Lilli was blessed abundantly with six adored grandchildren, Andrew Kurth, Jennifer (Kurth) Grassi, Melissa Kurth, and Julian, Damon and Harley Craig and an additional four precious great-grandchildren, whom she loved unconditionally. She also leaves behind her coveted younger sister, Marilyn (Jannetta) Maffei, and her brother-in-law Dr. Louis Maffei, and their families. Lilli's work as a nurse began at St. Clare's Riverside, NJ, and led her to both family practice nursing and ended in NJ as a Montessori school nurse, which carried her into private nursing for families on the Outer Cape. She loved her work, saltwater living on the Cape, her friends, her incredible neighbors, beachcombing at Indian Neck Beach, and cared equally about great conversation and conservation. She didn't miss a day of reading avidly the NY, NJ and Outer Cape newspapers. Her charm, love, feist and spirit will be dearly missed. A service will be held for family and friends at a later date at Our Lady of Lourdes in Wellfleet followed by a celebration of life.

Christina, Andy and families
I have no words to discribe the sadness in my heart in losing my dear friend Lillian. She always showed concern and love for me and Dave. And she would always visit with a yummy casserole in hand! I know she was waiting in heaven with open arms for Dave. My condolences to all.

We had the honor of being neighbors with Lilli for many years growing up here in Wellfleet. After we moved down the street my mother continued to cut and color her hair in the style she’d had since we met her in the 90s. She always had that glam about her and was so very beautiful. She was such a sweet, genuine, gentle, calm, and thoughtful soul. It was always a pleasure to spend time with her and just talk. With heavy hearts we send peace, love, and strength to Christina and all of the family during this difficult time. She will never be forgotten and we will always cherish those moments shared.

Christina, my deepest condolences on the passing of your mom. She was one of the sweetest people I have ever met. It has been years since I have seen her, but always asked about her through mutual friends. I worked for your father almost 40 years ago at Gallo & DeCroce. I was recently saddened by the passing of Diane Sanders who I remained friends with all these years, now your mom. I babysat for you on several occasions on Whitewood Dr. I remember your mom as such a caring, kind and genuine person. I keep you and your family in pray during this difficult time.

My family and I have so many great memories spending time with Lillie and her family. Memories that would fill two books possibly three. Lillie was always caring and knew what to say to make you feel better. Everywhere we went, people were drawn to her quick witted personality and her charm. One minute she would be next to me and in the next minute a crowd would be surrounding her listening to her stories and laughing in amusement. I will always remember my dear friend making people feel good and lifting their spirits. I will surely miss our birthday calls, catching up and picking up right where we left off even if months had gone by.

Dear Christina, Steven , and Family,
I heard about your Mom's passing and I know now she has no more pain, but I also know how hard it is. She was a good friend to me and always helped me when I needed it. When I had a problem I could not handle, I would call her and she was there in five minutes.
I was ready to mail her a card today when I saw an email from Kathie Grezwinski letting me know. I love her and will never forget her. Love to all of you.

Thinking of all of you. We loved Aunt Lil. She truly was a gentle and generous soul. I'm not sure if you remember but she allowed Jamie and I to spend our honeymoon in her home. She will always hold a special place in our hearts. Love, Melissa
