Margaret was born in Wellfleet on August 10, 1929, in the same 200+ year old cape where her mom, Leola M. (Taylor) Anderson, was also born. She lived in Wellfleet for 96 years, and loved telling stories of the “old days” - a life that began with an outhouse, a kerosene stove, a hand pump, and an endless supply of shellfish from Wellfleet harbor. As a young women, she worked at the Holden Inn (Wellfleet), then the Wellfleet Pharmacy (Mr. Murray owned it), and the curtain factory (now Town Library). Throughout her life, she always appreciated the simple pleasures of life; and liked to mention that she was a Mayflower descendent.
For 54 years, Margaret was married to Joseph (Putt) Menengas (deceased 2005) with whom she traveled throughout New England, and to Europe and Bermuda.
Margaret had two daughters, Kathleen Randall (husband Robert) of Anson, ME and Maureen Dumont (husband Ed) of Brewster, MA. She adored her (5) grand and (5) great grand children:
David Gray (wife Carrie) of Hadley, MA
Joseph Gray of Chesterville, ME
Jesse Finn (wife Thais) of Brewster, MA (great grandchildren Alicia and Kevin)
Rachael Finn of Wellfleet, MA (great grandchildren Kane and Koa)
Stephanie Randall (husband Luke) of Chesterville, ME (great grandson Truman)
Half-brother, Fredrick Anderson who resided in Rhode Island, predeceased her.
Margaret loved her many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and devoted friends whose unwavering care and support provided her tremendous comfort and joy, especially toward the end of her life.
Margaret enjoyed picking beach plums, playing with her grand and great grand kids, fundraising for local organizations, playing Bingo whenever she could, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, baking Angel Food cake, helping others, the “Swappie”, and eating a nightly bowl of coffee ice cream. She deeply loved the Wellfleet Congregational Church and her fellow parishioners.
Margaret was an active member of VFW, Grange, Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the American Legion. Without fail, every Memorial Day Margaret carried-on her grandfather's tradition of placing flowers on the graves of family members that extended from Provincetown to Wellfleet. She was a “true Cape Codder”, and very kind to everyone.
