OBITUARY

Marie O'Sullivan Morrison

October 29, 1925August 22, 2019

Marie O'Sullivan Morrison, age 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 22.

Marie was born to the late John M. and Agnes O'Sullivan in Billerica, MA and was married to the late Harry A. Morrison who passed away in 2009. She received her BA in Education from Central Connecticut State College and her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College. Before retiring, she was an elementary school teacher at the Truro Elementary School. She was instrumental in creating the pre-school programs in both Truro and Provincetown, MA.

Marie and Harry traveled extensively during their retirement, driving across country, taking cruises, and spent many winters in Venice, Florida. One of her most cherished travel experiences was a trip to Carentan, France with her entire family taken in tribute to her late brother-in-law, Whitney P. Morrison, who died at the Normandy invasion in France during WWII and is buried at the American Cemetery.

Marie was very active at her home away from home; the Wellfleet Senior Center, and her family is so grateful to the Staff at the Center for their kindness and friendship to Marie. The family would also like to acknowledge the Wellfleet Fire and Rescue Department for their numerous "visits" to Marie's home and for always showing great compassion and tenderness towards her.

Marie is survived by her children: Whitney P. Morrison of Wellfleet, MA; Stephen Morrison and his wife Meg Morrison of Plymouth, MA; Harry A. Morrison, Jr. or Orange, VT; and Marianne Morrison of Fort Mill, SC. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wellfleet Senior Center.

A viewing will be held at the Nickerson Funeral Home, 340 Main Street, Wellfleet, from 9 - 10:30 AM on Tuesday, August 27, followed by a funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 2282 Rt. 6, Wellfleet, at 11:00 AM and the burial thereafter at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Wellfleet. Marie was such a wonderful lady. Smart, funny full of life. We shared many wonderful times. I would bring her communion when she was unable to go to church. She was such a wonderful friend. I will miss her. God Bless her family. They had a wonderful mother. God Bless love Barbara

I only came to know Marie several years ago. Her forthright way of talking grabbed me right away. We enjoyed playing scrabble, sharing sandwiches from Dunkin Donuts, going to musical events, and tearing up the Shirttail Point walk. We would pass the benches and she would tell me about all the people whose names were on them. Sometimes she just wanted to go for a drive, and we always ended up at Newcombs parked at the top, looking at the water. She would tell me how her family camped there in the 30’s, and she and her siblings would walk to the town pump to fill their water cans. Sometimes a sweater needed mending or washing... I so enjoyed helping her with these little things. More than anything, I so enjoyed her company and we made each other laugh. I am lucky to have had her friendship.
