

The daughter of the late Ernest and Theresa Blomberg, she was a resident of South Wellfleet, Massachusetts. Born in Delta, Ohio, she graduated from Ohio State University in 1936, majoring in the field of entomology. She was married to Robert E. Parkinson who died in 1989. She is survived by her daughter Dr. Sylvia Gay Freeman of South Chatham, MA, her son, Robin Parkinson of New York City, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In recent years, she had been called the “butterfly lady” because of her interest in raising Monarch butterflies from egg to adult, and teaching others to do so as well. She was also an accomplished copper enamellist, a lover of poetry, breeder of German Shepherds, and a long–time advocate women’s rights and world peace.
A memorial gathering and poetry reading is scheduled for October 20 at 1 pm at Wellfleet Preservation Hall.
