DECEMBER 24, 1933 – APRIL 08, 2025
Mary “Carol” Perry Enos, age 91, of Provincetown, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, from natural causes, surrounded by family and close friends. Carol was born on Christmas Eve 1933, in Provincetown, where she would live her entire life. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Edith “Tootie” Ferreira Perry. She was the oldest of three children. Carol was a devoted Catholic and lifelong communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Church.
Carol attended the West End school in Provincetown up until the 8th grade when she left to help at home as her mother gave birth to a baby boy who was 13 years junior so her parents could work, and her sister could eventually graduate.
She started dating her husband, who predeceased her, Robert “Reggie” Enos around 1957, and they eventually married on November 23, 1967. Shortly thereafter, they had three children, Glenn, Scott, and Stacie.
Growing up, she worked at several fisheries and canning plants to help support her family. Throughout her lifetime she had many jobs including the Best Western Chateau’s housekeeping staff in her younger years for the late William and Emily Gordon. As her children grew older, she received a call from her cousin Gordon Ferreira, asking her if she could help at his restaurant, Stormy Harbor. Of course she said yes and ended up as a sassy staple serving breakfast/lunch for more than 15 years. Once the restaurant closed, she eventually moved on to Silva’s Seafood Connection and would become known as the Ice Cream Lady. There she loved all who came to her window, especially in the summer when the little league baseball teams would come for a celebratory ice cream. After, a long stint at Silvas, she moved on to Lopes Square in the heart of Provincetown at John’s Foot Long. Carol took her charming, cheerful, sassy self along her career path. She along with her sister, Marian Goveia, Nory Thomas, and we can’t forget Cousin Helen Santos, they were known as the Golden Girls of Lopes Square at JOFOLOCO, John’s Foot Long Company. Many started with the late John T. Grace but eventually were at the hands of Mark Janoplis who took over and cherished each one of them, loving them all like his own family.
Due to a medical emergency in December 2019 when she had a stroke, and thanks to the fast actions of Jay a/k/a Beef of UPS and Lisa Potter of Lower Cape Ambulance, Carol was able to continue to live to the fullest but unfortunately had to retire.
Carol’s health declined slowly over the last couple years, up until last fall where she took a fall and, because of limited mobility, became a resident of the Seashore Pointe Wellness Center, in Provincetown.
Carol had a great life. She loved traveling on bus trips to Atlantic City and playing Bingo at the Provincetown VFW and Eastham Elks Club. She loved to dance, especially to big band music. She was also part of the candlepin bowling team called the “PT’s” who bowled at Anthony Perry’s Bowl Away. She loved going to the Provincetown Senior Center for their luncheons and enjoyed her home visits. Carol also enjoyed riding around town, and visiting her favorite restaurants for dinner, as well as seeing familiar faces. Carol always managed to become the center of attention with her outgoing love, smile and as well call it “Carol Class.”
Carol and her sister Shirley were known as the “Perry Sisters”, as they would usually accompany each other to celebrations, church, and funerals; they were inseparable being born 12 months 19 days apart. They were usually mistaken for each other or referred to as twins. When shopping for clothing they usually ended up with a matching outfit or two.
Shirley sat right beside her sister in Carol’s last days holding her hand or telling her it’s ok.
Carol would have been married 58 years this year, 10 as a widow. She had 3 wonderful children, and eventually 5 grandchildren whom she loved all unconditionally.
Carol was predeceased by her beloved Reggie and her daughter Stacie Lindera. She is survived by her two sons Glenn and Scott, as well as her daughter-in-law Christina Turner Enos, and son-in-law Andrew Lindera. She cherished her grandchildren Shae Perry, Devyn Enos, Johnathan Lindera, Kyle Enos, and Rayden “Jack” Lindera. She is also survived by her sister Shirley Baker of Provincetown, her brother Joseph Perry and sister-in-law Paula, of Jeannette, PA; her nieces and nephews Nancy Burch Silva and husband Albert of North Truro, John Burch and wife Nancy of Provincetown, Karen Thomas and husband Steven of Provincetown, Annette Racette and husband Kurt of Richfield, NC, and Christian Perry of Pennsylvania. She also has several great nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on April 25, 2025 from 4-7 PM at the Nickerson Funeral Home, 340 Main Street, Wellfleet. Carol’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince Street, Provincetown, MA. Burial will follow at St. Peter the Apostle Cemetery, Provincetown.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations be made to the Provincetown Senior Center/Council on Aging, located at the Veterans Memorial Community Center, 2 Mayflower Lane, Provincetown, MA.
Our family would like to thank all the Doctors, Nurses and Certified Aides of Seashore Pointe Wellness Center also Outer Cape Health Center, including Broad Reach Healthcare Hospice of Orleans for making our mother’s end of life meaningful, treating her with care and respect, as well as being loved and not alone.
Mary "Carol" may have left us, but she will never be forgotten by all that knew her.
We all love you, rest in peace. Until we meet again, may God Bless your Soul.
