Richard W. Crosby

RICHARD W. “BING” CROSBY
ORLEANS – Richard W. “Bing” Crosby of Orleans passed away on June 5, 2011 of congestive heart failure and kidney failure, at age 74. He was born in Orleans on November 30, 1936. He lived his whole life in Orleans; divorced twice. His family lived on the Cape since the 1600’s; related to the Linnell’s, Chases. Nickerson’s and the Snows. He loved bowling and was on bowling leagues when he was young. He was also a certified bowling instructor. He graduated from Orleans High School in 1955. He loved sports, and played football, basketball and baseball in high school. He was an avid Red Sox, Celtic’s, Patriots and Bruins fan. He was a straight A student, and had been accepted to a college in Illinois, but decided to join the army instead, although he was not accepted due to childhood asthma. He worked as a truck driver, painter, fisherman, vendor for flea markets and shows, and worked almost 40 years at the Orleans Bowling Center. He loved people and always had time to chat. He loved to camp in the White Mountains in N.H. He also loved gambling, especially at the dog track and the lottery. He was predeceased by his parents, Ansel E. Crosby and Catherine E. (Linnell), and his brother, Charles E. Crosby. He leaves behind two daughters; Sheila McGorman of Orleans and Sarah Crosby of Hyannis; four grandchildren; Melody Humphrey of Attleboro, Harmony McGorman of Hyannis, Sinead McGorman of Chicopee and Joey Crosby of Orleans; one great-grandson, Azra Humphrey of Attleboro; a sister, Dorothy Campbell of Chatham; a niece Stacey (Atwood) Budd of Mechanicsville, MD and his beloved cat, Meechie. A Memorial Service will be held at the Federated Church of Orleans on Saturday, June 18th, 2011 at 1pm. A gathering will be held at the VFW in Brewster following the service. Memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association or Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod.
