Born February 13, 1947, Richard was raised in Adamsville, RI, graduated from Colt Memorial High School, and attended Rhode Island College. He was the son of the late James H. Gray and Lillian Gray, and survived by his devoted wife Mary Fontenarosa. Richard and Mary met in Provincetown and settled there to start a family. Richard leaves behind his loving sons James and wife Allison Gray of Wellfleet, Sean and wife Kathryn Gray of Naples, FL as well as his two grandchildren, James T. Gray and Kennedy Gray.
He also leaves behind his dear sister Carol potter of Edmonds, WA, his nieces, and many friends.
Richard was a lobsterman and tuna fisherman for over 20 years. He played a pivotal role in helping to discover the pirate ship Whydah off the shores of Wellfleet in 1984. His passion in life was anything related to the sea.
