Robert “Bob” Charles Walter 77, of Wellfleet, MA died on November 9, 2021 in Cape Cod Hospital. Bob married Joan Leonard from Haledon in 1967 where they adopted two children, Michael (deceased-1987) and Janine Walter Hassell of Tupelo, Mississippi where she is presently married to retired Sergeant Clay Hassell of the Tupelo Police Department. Robert (Bob) Walter grew up in Rutherford, NJ, graduating from high school in 1962. He went on to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, majoring in math/education graduating in 1966. Upon returning to New Jersey, he taught high school mathematics at River Dell High school until retiring in 2000. He also went on to earn his Master’s Degree at Montclair University. He lived in Ringwood, NJ from 1968-1979 and Wayne, NJ from 1979-2000.

Bob was the co-founder of the GOALS Soccer Camps (Girls of America Love Soccer), one of the largest all girls soccer programs on the east coast. He coached soccer for 30 years (15 boys; 15 girls). Bob was inducted into the NJGSCA Hall of Fame in 1998 for his contribution to the development of girls’ soccer in New Jersey. He was also inducted into the Ramapo High School Hall of Fame as one of the coaches of the # 1 nationally ranked girls high school soccer team in 1998. While living in NJ, Bob served on the vestry at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Wayne. He retired in 2000 and moved to Wellfleet, MA where he and Joan enjoyed over 20 years of “heaven on earth”.

While in Wellfleet, Bob served for ten years as an officer of OKC Homeowners Association, Golf Chairman of the CYCC, served on the Vestry, Chairman of Buildings and Grounds, as well as Treasurer of Saint James the Fisherman. He also served as a volunteer with the Wellfleet Alzheimer’s Association. Bob loved the game of golf and was happy spending many years of his retirement on the courses of Cape Cod. He and Joan always enjoyed hosting their annual Kentucky Derby Parties and Super Bowl Parties at their home.

A memorial service will be held at St Mary’s of the Harbor in Provincetown at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, followed by the interment of his ashes at the Chapel of St. James the Fisherman in Wellfleet. Donations Made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, in lieu of flowers, are most appreciated.
