Peacefully and with dignity, loving family at her side our most precious Betty passed away on Monday April 19th. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her family son Daniel Izzard (Madeleine) daughter Barbara Izzard Thynne (Jamie), Brother Victor Gillgan (Brenda), grandsons Lor, Brian, and Brandon, niece Pamela, nephews Stephen, Philip, and Peter, extended family Jemila, David, and Karsten. Pre-deceased by her sister Patricia Cooper. Born in Scotland to Victor and Ida Gillgan, Betty served with distinction in the W.R.N.S. (Royal Navy) and later immigrated to Canada with her young family. Betty always made a safe and welcoming refuge for all her extended family and friends and was loved by all who came in contact with her. She was a completely modern woman and became an inspiration to all who crossed her path, compassion and self deprecating humour being her most endearing traits. Ever generous and thoughtful Betty was a role model for her children and grandchildren and all their friends. Betty's days at U of T Scarborough Campus were among her happiest times where she leaves behind many dear colleagues and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Guildwood Extendicare, and Betty's roommate Lynda Demont for all their kindness and care. Celebration of Betty's remarkable life Sunday, 2nd of May 2010, 1-4 p.m. at the GIFFEN-MACK “SCARBOROUGH” FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 4115 Lawrence Avenue East (just west of Kingston Road) West Hill, 416-281-6800.
