He was born in Munich, Germany, one of seven children. An adventurous soul, Guenther emigrated to Canada on his own in 1963, at age 21. He quickly found work as an accountant for Bittners and then moved on to Melitta Canada to assume greater responsibilities rising up the ranks to run their Finance Department.
Being honorable, dependable and solid as a rock, Guenther made friends easily throughout his life. His friendship with Hildegard Papist was no different: it grew into a romance over 35 years ago which remained steadfast throughout the rest of his life. Guenther embraced Hildegard's children, being there as mentor and friend, and in every way taking on the role of dad. 21 years ago, Guenther and Hildegard assumed full parenting responsibilities for Brittney, and he raised her as his own.
He ‘Retired’ from Melitta in 1994 to start his own business, GE Assembly, where he enjoyed much success over 22 years, working with major clients such as Philips Canada and Melitta Canada.
Whether he was sailing on Lake Ontario in earlier years, spending time in Florida, or hitting a ball down the fairway, Guenther approached everything in life with great passion and his own unique style. His wry sense of humour, quick wit and integrity endeared him to many. Guenther was always someone you could rely on under any circumstance.
Guenther is survived by Hildegard; and his ‘adopted’ children, Gabi and her son Brandon in Orillia; Peggy and her husband Roger and their son Hayden in Uxbridge; Christian and An with his sons Jackson and Mitchell and her daughter Lydia in Peterborough; and Brittney in West Hill.
Family and friends are welcome to gather at Giffen-Mack Funeral Home 4115 Lawrence Ave East, West Hill, (one block west of Kingston Rd.) on Wednesday, March 9th between 6:00--8:00pm, A service will take place in the Chapel of the Funeral Home on Thursday March 10th at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
