February 7, 1925 – July 18, 2015
We are deeply saddened to announce James (Ted) Edmund Reeve was surrounded by family when he passed away peacefully in his 91st year after a very brief illness.
He was born and raised in Toronto and attended Allenby Junior P.S. and North Toronto Collegiate Institute. He cherished the friendships he developed in the Progress Bible Class of St. James-Bond United Church. At age 18, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve and was posted to active service in Newfoundland. He was discharged in October 1945. He took great pride in his 21 months of service and enjoyed sharing his experiences. Upon his return to Toronto, he apprenticed as a tailor with his father for several years before joining the Imperial Bank of Commerce. His forty-year career with CIBC began at the Yonge and Queen branch as a teller. He went on to be an Accountant, an Inspector and an Assistant Manager in Human Resources before retiring in September 1988. Many life-long friendships were forged along the way. Ted loved working with his hands. He enjoyed making furniture and cabinetry for his family. Shortly before retiring he began making miniature furniture. What wasn’t given away as gifts to family and friends were proudly displayed in his home. He was also an avid sports fan. He played many sports, but was most passionate about baseball. He enjoyed coaching children’s teams and teaching his daughters, grandchildren and nephews how to throw a baseball to get a good spin on it. All who heard them will remember his baseball stories. His reflections on the beauty of living are evident in his photography of garden flowers and changing fall colours. Other highlights in his life included family cottage vacations in Haliburton, trips with his wife, visits with his grandchildren and family parties.
Ted is survived by his beloved wife Bernice (nee Cummer), younger brother Allan Reeve (Anne), sister-in-law Maureene Mosher, daughters Lynda Leigh (Scott) and Lori Reeve (Robert Pemberton) and grandchildren Jennifer and Jessica Leigh and Connor Pemberton. He will be dearly missed by many more family members and friends. He is predeceased by his parents Lesley and Mary Reeve, sister and brother-in-law Jean and Paul Roszell and mother and father-in-law Ivy and Lawrence Cummer.
A celebration of his life will take place at the Giffen-Mack Funeral Home, 4115 Lawrence Avenue East, Scarborough, on Saturday, July 25th with a visitation at 1:30 p.m., followed by a service at 2:30 p.m. Internment will take place at a later date. If so desired, please share your memories of Ted on the Giffen-Mack web site. In lieu of flowers, donations to Rouge Valley Health System Foundation, Special Occasion Giving, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
