On May 8, 2016 at home at the age of 86.
Marion is survived by her husband of 61 years and dance partner, Walter, and their children Jim (Jane) and Pat (Beth) and adored grandchildren Kevin (Annie) and Ellen (Seth).
Marion was born in 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, to Leonard Sedgley and Isabella (“Daisy”) Sedgley (nee Bailey) and moved to Canada at a young age. She trained in accounting and, later, income tax, and worked for a number of companies. Marion led a very active life and enjoyed swimming, skating, golf, tennis, curling and, most of all, ballroom dancing. She and Walter started dancing in the early 1970s and became teachers with Scarborough (later Toronto) Parks and Recreation in 1990 and taught until 2015. She strongly believed in the physical and mental benefits of dancing.
Marion combined her love of dance and travel. She and Walter enjoyed several cruises to places such as the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, China and Norway where they took full advantage of the ships’ ballrooms. She also made many trips to Great Britain to visit relatives.
The family would like to thank the CCAC palliative care team for their compassion and kindness. Thank you also to Jane for taking such good care of Mom.
Marion will be missed for her smile and ready laugh. Pat will especially miss their daily phone conversations where all the problems of the world would be solved.
Celebration of Life will be held at the Giffen-Mack Funeral Home, 4115 Lawrence Avenue East, on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 1:00pm with reception to follow. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 7-9pm.
Donations in Marion’s memory to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, The Arthritis Society or the Canadian Wildlife Federation would be appreciated.
