ROMONA (Dolly) XAVIER passed away peacefully, after an intense battle with stomach cancer, on Friday, February 21st, 2020, at the age of 86 yrs, 11 months and 3 weeks. Her suffering during these past few months intensified but she never complained – bearing it all up quietly and offering it all to Jesus on the Cross.
Dolly was born in Dadar, Mumbai, India, on Tuesday, February 28th, 1933, to Lucy (née Silveira) and Dominic Rodricks and is the third of 6 siblings: (late) Frank who passed away 3 weeks before her on Jan 27th, 2020, (late) William, Victoria, (late) Norbert and Alfred.
Dolly was a self-made woman who had no university degree but used her God-given intelligence, wisdom and talents to move ahead, together with God’s blessings and plans for her life. She worked as the Honorary Vice Consul of the Netherlands in Calcutta, India, for several years and was twice knighted by the Dutch Queen who awarded her the Order of the Orange Nassau on April 30th, 1990 in Calcutta, India, and Knight in the Order of the Orange Nassau on April 30th, 1994 in New Delhi, India for her loyal and dedicated services rendered to the Dutch Government and the Dutch Community during her tenure.
Dolly is best remembered for her winning smile, her jovial nature, strong faith and prayerful spirit, her perseverance and determination, amazing work ethic and most of all for her loving heart, her kindness, generosity and patience.
Dolly is now reunited with her predeceased husband Sidney, her parents, siblings, in-laws, relatives and dear friends, rejoicing with them and the heavenly host with her beloved Lord. She will be deeply missed by only child Ann, her son-in-law Joaquim, her two grandchildren Joanna and Julia; her sister Victoria, brother Alfred, and all her family members and friends who loved her very much.
A funeral mass will be held for Romona at St Barnabus Catholic church, 10 Washburn Way, Scarborough at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 29th. Burial will follow at Christ the King Catholic cemetery.
