It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sergio Leonardo Marchant Azócar on August 9, 2025, due to heart failure. He passed peacefully in the early morning hours, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and dedication to his family and community.
Born on September 19, 1947, in Valparaíso, Chile, Sergio lived a life defined by service, resilience, and generosity. He began his career working in construction, private schools, and elementary education in Chile, where his passion for helping others shone through. In 1987, Sergio made the courageous decision to move to Canada in search of new opportunities for his family. There, he first worked as a painter before earning his teaching credentials and returning to the classroom as an elementary school teacher.
Outside of work, Sergio gave freely of his time, volunteering at the YMCA and serving as a beloved soccer coach to many young athletes. His guidance, patience, and encouragement inspired those he taught both on and off the field.
Sergio is survived by his three children: Gloria, Sergio, and JeanPierre and his eight cherished grandchildren: Keringtyn, Ethan, Briseis, Sergio Jr., Alexander, Isabella, Maximus, and Valentina. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous heart, and deep devotion to his family.
Sergio’s life was a testament to perseverance, kindness, and the belief that hard work and compassion could change lives. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are welcome to gather at Giffen-Mack Funeral Home, 4115 Lawrence Ave. E., West Hill, on Friday, August 15, 2025 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. A private cremation will be held at a later date.
