My dear Uncle.  We will remember you for the kindness, strength and reassurance you brought to the family.  I grew up hearing of the protective ways you looked out for my mom and aunts as they were growing up.  Reading some of the other comments from your former colleagues it is clear your time on earth was one of dignity and honor. Rest well Uncle Winston. May God grant you peace.

Uncle Winston … you were my first uncle, a father and a friend. I pray your soul will rest in peace and God’s perpetual light will shine upon you always. You will be greatly missed but will always be in our hearts. 
You were an example of hard work and perseverance. Never one in giving up. May your legacy lives on through your family, children, nieces, nephews, friends and all who were blessed to have encountered you. God granted you long time, although we hope that it would have been longer.  However we trust His timing, which is always perfect. Your sister Patricia ( Pat) continues in talking about you as she misses you so much.

Growing up, my relationship with my dad was complicated. There were moments when I longed for the kind of fatherly love I saw in movies, but that wasn’t always the reality. I can remember one afternoon when I was about 12. I had been working hard on a school project for weeks and was so proud of what I had created. I eagerly showed it to my dad, hoping for a word of encouragement or praise.

Instead, he barely glanced at it and simply said, "It’s okay, but you could’ve done better." It stung. I wanted him to see how hard I had worked, but instead, it felt like my efforts weren’t enough.

At the time, I felt hurt and disappointed. But looking back, I realize that my dad had his own struggles. He wasn’t always able to express love or pride in the way I hoped. While he might not have been the supportive father I wanted, that moment taught me to find my own strength and validation, independent of others’ approval.

I learned to be proud of my own accomplishments, even when I didn’t get the external recognition I was hoping for. In his own way, my dad’s absence of praise made me more resilient and self-reliant. While our relationship wasn’t always easy, that lesson has stayed with me, and I’ve carried it into my own life.

Winston spoke proudly about his family, and at the forefront, was his infectious smile and desire to helps those in need, his signature of humanity. I will always have fond memories…
