(Julia) Ann was the daughter of Jessie and Dewey Winningham of Burlington and Greensboro, NC.
She is survived by two children; a daughter, Kathleen Logsdon Carrozza of Yaphank, Long Island, NY and son Kent Logsdon of Boynton Beach FL. Her partner of 24 years, Dennis Johnson resides in West Palm Beach.
Ann grew up in North Carolina where she graduated from Burlington High school and attended First Baptist Church. The Winningham family were early residents of Burlington and some of the first stockholders of Burlington Mills, founded in 1924 (now the International Textile Group). Ann graduated from Wake Forest University and attended graduate school at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She completed her Masters of Science degree at Case Western Reserve and became a certified social worker. She spent a total of 42 years working in a variety of settings in the social work field.
She began her career at Baptist Children's home in Thomasville, NC where she placed children in foster homes. She did similar work in Boston, Massachusetts and at the state of Florida Child Welfare Division.
She also placed children for adoption while working for the Children's Home Society of Florida. The later part of her career was spent working in medical and hospital care. She was the director of social work for Franklin General Medical Center, a community hospital in Valley Stream, NY for nearly 25 years and retired from there in 1997.
Ann married Donald Neil Logsdon, a classmate from Wake Forest University in 1956. Don grew up in West Palm Beach and was in the first graduating class of the medical school at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He received additional training from the Harvard School of Public Health and after graduation, began working for the Palm Beach County department of Health as an assistant to Dr. Carl Brumbach.
Dr. Logsdon died in a tragic auto accident in New York in 1991 however Ann maintained ties with family and friends in West Palm Beach.
Ann met Dennis (Denny) Johnson of Cadillac, Michigan while on a ski trip to Colorado in 1996 and shortly thereafter they decided to share their life together. They relocated to Lake Clark Shores and then West Palm Beach after retirement. Ann enjoyed gardening and reading and became active in her community as an avid volunteer. Her interest in children and people of all ages prompted her to work as a greeter at the Palm Beach County Airport, as a docent at The Flagler Museum and with her church, the Royal Poinciana Chapel in Palm Beach. She was also a member of the Lake Clark Shores garden club where the group shared many wonderful educational experiences. She used her passion for helping people in many different ways. In lieu of flowers the family would like to request memorial donations be sent to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
