Arlene Bea Goldberg, 80, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025.
Born in Paterson, New Jersey, she was the youngest daughter of Isadore and Sadie Goldberg. She attended Paterson schools and earned her B.A. in English and Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Arlene served in the Peace Corps in the Philippines from 1966–1968 and remained deeply involved with the Returned Peace Corps community, serving on the national board and chairing the Shriver Award committee.
Arlene began her teaching career in the Paterson school district in 1969. After earning a master’s degree in Education and School Psychology from the University of Florida at Boca Raton, she served as a school psychologist at Kennedy and East Side High Schools, retiring in 2000 after 31 years.
A passionate traveler, avid scuba diver, and ballet enthusiast, Arlene also became a licensed massage therapist in retirement. She was a gifted writer and a devoted correspondent, known for her thoughtful holiday letters.
She is survived by her sister, Rochelle “Shellye” Young; nephews Andrew Young (Gina) and Brad Young (Ashley); great-nephews AJ, Matthew, Holden (Hailey), Noah (Mahalley), and Blake Razook (Haley); great-great nephews Jensen, Reid, and Sonny; great-great niece Rosalynne; and many cousins. She also held close a special family: Dimitri and Luba Strakhov and their daughter Sasha Oleksandra (Steve).
A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 12 noon at I.J. Morris at Star of David Cemetery of the Palm Beaches.
