Arthur L. Porter
September 17, 1923 – February 5, 2021
ARTHUR LAURISTON PORTER 9/17/1923 – 2/05/2021
Four years after being diagnosed with a rare brain degenerative condition called Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy (PSP), Arthur Porter died peacefully at his home in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was 97 years old. He lived a full, dedicated respectable life. Arthur was born in Port-of-Spain Trinidad & Tobago on September 17th, 1923. He had been married to his lovely wife Stella for 72 years when she passed away in 2017. After undergoing a wonderful conversion experience in the late 1990s, Arthur and Stella practiced their Catholic faith to the end as members of Queen of The Apostles Catholic Church in West Palm Beach. Arthur, who did not complete elementary school in Trinidad, earned a Bachelor Degree in Accounting from Lehman College of CUNY, Bronx, NY at age 55, while working full-time. Following this, he was employed as an accountant at a Wall Street Firm. At home Arthur instilled in his children a thirst for education in addition to strong values of honesty, hard work and perseverance. He was an attentive husband and a stern and caring father who provided everything the family needed. He participated in parent-teachers association and was once president of the association at the elementary school attended by his two sons
He was the father of four: Michael, Sandra, Ayleen and the late Anthony who passed away in 2019. He had 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was greatly loved and will be missed by all family and friends. May he rest in peace.

I’m thinking of all of you this morning as you lay your Father to rest. He is joining my parents, his wife and son in heaven. He lived a long productive life and raised four successful children. You all can be proud of the life he lived and provided for you. Yes, you will miss him, but you can look forward to seeing him, you’re Mom and Brother again one day. God bless you all.

Sandra (Olive), Ayleen, Michael & Anthony (in Heaven), I want to thank you so much for allowing me to share your father and mother with you. Mom & Dad were my daughters, Shavon & Shamanie’s other grandparents as they grew up and as adults.
Dad and I developed a ‘special’ relationship soon after he met me. I loved how I could always bring a smile to his face. I alone could change that ‘stern look’ everyone knows so well, into a big smile and laugh. However, I also knew when to pay ‘close and serious attention’ when he was giving me advice and guidance. I will always remember his guidance. ❤️❤️❤️
Dad is reunited with his bride and son now. That brings me joy. 🙏🏾
Michael, Sandra, Ayleen, all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, I hope that all your beautiful memories bring you comfort now and in the difficult days to come.
Love & Hugs,
Sharon 🥰

I am blessed to be Grampa's granddaughter. There are so many memories. There are so many things I will miss about Grampa. He instilled "love of family" in all of us. I will miss his laugh, sense of humor, smile and words of wisdom. I get teary-eyed reminiscing on the phone calls, gifts, and birthday/graduation cards I received from Grampa and Grandmommy throughout the years. How could I ever forget his stern lectures and constant reminders to pay attention in school, challenge myself, and never stop learning? I am so thankful that my husband, Chris, was able to meet Grampa and receive some practical marriage advice from him. Chris and I pray Grampa is relaxing right now in heaven with Grandmommy and Uncle Tony. We will carry all of these precious memories in our hearts. May God bless you and keep you, Grampa. Love, Safiya & Chris

Grief never ends, but it changes. It is a passage, not a permanent place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness nor a lack of faith. It is the price of love for your father, Arthur.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all: Michael, Sandra, Ayleen, and the rest of the family.
Cousin Arthur is gone from my sight but not from my heart.

Hum. I must start by repeating Sleep In Peace to my darling Uncle Arthur. I will never forget him telling me. " lextra you are not coming to Florida to see me, hum you will come see me when i am lying in my box" I laughed and answered " never" he was some what correct. Covid- 19 is here and even now we cannot leave Trinidad. Uncle Arthur/ Aunt Stella were my second parents. He was a sticker for dicipline, education and good morals. What ever he wished for his children he wished for my brother Neubun and myself. My mother Mildred himself and Aunt Stella were like 3 peas in a pod. After leaving Trinidad I cannot recall him and Aunt Stella not returning to Trinidad to spend Carnival with his sister Mildred. Loverly memories shared, i will never forget. Too many to mention. You lived your 3 scores and 10 and with GOD in your life you lived to 97. You were the last of that generation. Pappa, Telly, (your parents). (Mildred, Kelvin Dorothy your siblings) Aunt Stella Anthony( your wife and son) you are now with those who have gone before. I will never forget you. Sleep well my uncle untill we meet again.
Deepest sympathy to Michael, Sandra, Ayleen also to his daughters in law Ava and Ann his grand children and great grand children. My love and Blessings to each and every one of you. GOD BLESS.
Lextra , Ansil, Akini and Adanna.

I cannot ever think of Uncle Arthur as being gone. He will always live on in my memory. He always had an encouraging word to give. I always enjoyed our visits, his political views and he was the ultimate educator. I didn’t get to see him often but our phone calls were always long and he had such a great sense of humor. He will be sorely missed.

The most compelling memory that I have of Mr Porter is of him sitting in Ayleen’s dining room in Brooklyn regaling a group of us with his wisdom and humor.
In my memory, he is sitting above us in a throne- like chair, totally at ease, confident and charming. He was holding court.
As Mr Porter went through the various challenges that his changing health brought on and finally his peaceful transition, this is how I will always remember him.
My most sincere condolences to my dearest friend Ayleen, Michael, Sandra and the entire family who mourn him. He willed be greatly missed.

Hi, my cousins. Sad as it is, this is what awaits us all. No matter how hard we try, we have not been able to escape the effects of aging n death. But does death end it all? No. John 5: 28, 29 gives us a hope. Our dear uncle Arthur is safe in d memory of God, who will remember every detail about him n bring him back again. My deepest condolences to the entire family. Luv always. Marva.

It’s never easy to lose a parent,no matter how old we’re.It’s hard.Your dad was a wonderful man as I knew him growing up, I was lucky to know him & call him Uncle Just wanted to say how much your dad meant to me and how much he will be missed He was such a wonderful person He will always be with his children. His children will always remember how it felt to laugh with him and be loved by him. He will always live on in them. The lesson your dad taught you, the love he gave the way he cared, all those good things live on in his children. Our words can’t take away the pain of losing a loved one , but they can go a long way towards helping a grieving family feel loved & supported. It is hard to say goodbye but he is at peace. My heart goes out to his children right now. I am praying hard for peace , for comfort & for whatever they need right now to take them through .Be blessed
