Bernd W. Hollweg Schuett

Bernd Walter Werner Hollweg Schütt was born on April 28, 1935, in Caracas, Venezuela, and departed this world on August 5, 2025, in West Palm Beach, Florida at the age of 90. He was surrounded by tfamily who loved him deeply.

The son of Arthur Hollweg and Clara Schütt de Hollweg, Bernd initially grew up in Caracas, until, in the difficult years of World War II, his family moved to Chemnitz, Germany, where he lived part of his childhood. At the end of the war, they returned to Caracas, where their father died a short time later. From a very young age, together with his mother and his brother Frank (born in 1939), he knew how to face life with determination, strength and hard work.

At an early age, he began working as an office assistant at the Beco Blohm company, where he would later be assigned to the fruit department, specializing in the area of cocoa. His dedication, intelligence and work ethic made him, over the years, a true eminence of cocoa in Venezuela, recognized and respected by colleagues and customers for more than three decades of tireless work.

In 1961 he met Ursula Schumann, whom he married in 1962. From that union were born his two children, Cai (1963) and Silvia (1973), who always saw him not only as a father, but also as a guide, unconditional support and friend.

Bernd was an endearing, generous man and deeply loved by family and friends. His love for nature was immense; He had a special affection for animals and the sea. He greatly enjoyed the weekends on the Venezuelan central coast, especially in Laguna Beach, where he shared unforgettable moments with his family and loved ones. Another of his great passions was traveling, and in 1978 he acquired a house in Palm Beach, Florida, in the Tiara building, a place that would become central to his life years later.

In 1985 he bought a farm called La Guajirita, in the state of Yaracuy, Venezuela. He met Yajaira Herminia Sillet, whom he married in the early 90s. At that stage, Paula Márquez also began to be a very close part of his life and his heart.

Beginning in the 2000s, he established a life between two worlds he loved deeply: West Palm Beach and his beloved Caracas. For the last 25 years, he alternated between the two places, enjoying the best of each: the serenity of the sea, the warmth of the tropics, the company of his loved ones and the beauty of life itself.

Bernd lived a life rich in experiences, marked by love, dedication and full enjoyment of each stage. His legacy is deep and enduring. Those of us who were fortunate enough to know and love him will always remember him as a man of integrity, generosity, wisdom and profoundly human.

Hijo de Arthur Hollweg y Clara Schütt de Hollweg, Bernd creció inicialmente en Caracas, hasta que, en los años difíciles de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, su familia se trasladó a Chemnitz, Alemania, donde vivió parte de su infancia. Al finalizar la guerra, regresaron a Caracas, donde poco tiempo después falleció su padre. Desde muy joven, junto a su madre y su hermano Frank (nacido en 1939), supo enfrentar la vida con determinación, fortaleza y trabajo duro.

A temprana edad, comenzó a trabajar como asistente de oficina en la empresa Beco Blohm, donde más adelante sería asignado al departamento de frutos, especializándose en el área del cacao. Su dedicación, inteligencia y ética de trabajo lo convirtieron, con el paso de los años, en una verdadera eminencia del cacao en Venezuela, reconocido y respetado por colegas y clientes durante más de tres décadas de labor incansable.

En 1961 conoció a Ursula Schumann, con quien se casó en 1962. De esa unión nacieron sus dos hijos, Cai (1963) y Silvia (1973), quienes siempre lo vieron no solo como padre, sino también como guía, apoyo incondicional y amigo.

Bernd fue un hombre entrañable, generoso y profundamente querido por familiares y amigos. Su amor por la naturaleza era inmenso; sentía un cariño especial por los animales y por el mar. Disfrutaba enormemente de los fines de semana en el litoral central venezolano, especialmente en Laguna Beach, donde compartió momentos inolvidables con su familia y seres queridos. Otra de sus grandes pasiones fue viajar, y en 1978 adquirió una vivienda en Palm Beach, Florida, en el edificio Tiara, lugar que se volvería central en su vida años más tarde.

En 1985 compró una finca llamada La Guajirita, en el estado Yaracuy, Venezuela. Conoce a Yajaira Herminia Sillet, con quien contrajo matrimonio a comienzos de los años 90. En esa etapa, Paula Márquez también comenzó a formar parte muy cercana de su vida y su corazón.

A partir de los años 2000, estableció una vida entre dos mundos que amaba profundamente: West Palm Beach y su querida Caracas. Durante los últimos 25 años, alternó entre ambos lugares, disfrutando de lo mejor de cada uno: la serenidad del mar, la calidez del trópico, la compañía de los suyos y la belleza de la vida misma.

Bernd vivió una vida rica en experiencias, marcada por el amor, la entrega y el disfrute pleno de cada etapa. Su legado es profundo y perdurable. Quienes tuvimos la fortuna de

conocerlo y amarlo lo recordaremos siempre como un hombre íntegro, generoso, sabio y profundamente humano.
