Carl David Geier

Carl was born in Nashville on December 8, 1949. Hank Williams lived down the street, but Carl’s family wasn’t wealthy; they just lived in the old part of town. His father was a writer, journalist, theologian, civil rights activist, and professor. His mother was the first woman to earn a master’s degree at the University of Alabama. Carl was the youngest of three. His sisters, Janet and Gail, survive.

Carl attended Duke University, where he studied English and planned to become a writer like his father. Then the Vietnam draft started, so he went to medical school, where he met the love of his life, Ann Blanchard, a nurse at Duke Hospital. Ann & Carl lived in 5 different states, as his education required them to move to accomplish his studies and training.

Carl became a pediatrician and served in the US Air Force as base doctor at Offutt AFB in Omaha, NE. He then practiced in High Point, NC, where he made many amazing lifelong friends, learned to ballroom dance, which included mastering the tango, drank, ran a marathon, and raised two boys, Carl “David” Geier, Jr., and Scott Christopher Geier.

Carl later realized he could provide better for those kids and do work that better suited him if he switched medical specialties, and he was so intelligent, this didn’t seem like too hard a thing to do (in middle age with two kids). He completed a residency in radiology in Memphis, then settled into practice in Anderson, SC, and later, Charleston, SC. Carl made the most of his new opportunities. He traveled the entire world (all 7 continents); he loved to cook and to eat delicious food, loved several unforgettable dogs, including Tinker, his beloved chihuahua mix, and became a grandfather five times over. He loved Pickleball, especially the friends he made through the game, surf fished, played golf, wrote a blog on Ricochet, listened to a lot of podcasts, and he loved “A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs. He read more books than you could count. Clemson football was always a highlight every fall, and 2 of the grandchildren attend/attended Clemson. He loved God, enjoyed 56 years with Ann, and lived with an intellectual’s appreciation of the mystery of life. He loved to “ponder” deep thoughts that none of us would even consider.

This love of learning and his faith led him to The Chosen, and he and Ann are supporters of the Come & See Foundation, which funds The Chosen. He loved everything about the project, and they had just returned from visiting the set to watch the filming of an episode of Season 7. He touched so many lives and will be missed by so many people.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 345 S. Military Trail, West Palm Beach, FL 33415.
