Chuck was born in Janesville, Wisconsin. From 1952 to 1954 he served in the Army, stationed in Germany. In 1955, he married his beloved wife, Shirley. He attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. Daughters Sharon and Diane were born in Wisconsin. In 1960, the family moved to West Palm Beach, Florida and Chuck began working for Pratt and Whitney in Jupiter. During his 27-year career, he took part in designing aircraft engines such as the RL10 rocket engine and the engine for the F-15 fighter jet.
Chuck was an accomplished woodworker and handyman who could install and repair anything in and around the house. He enjoyed his weekly bowling league at Verdes Tropicana. He and Shirley toured the US in a van he customized as an RV, and they also traveled around the world. He was an active member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Palm Beach for 58 years.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Diane (Joseph) Roux of Urbana, OH; grandchildren, Paul C. Arnold of Arlington, VA and Kristy Arnold of West Palm Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Marie Starr, Roger Nelson, Dean Nelson, and Betty Whitney; and his daughter, Sharon (Paul F.) Arnold.
Visitation is at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 5411 Okeechobee Blvd, on Saturday, August 25 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. A funeral is scheduled for noon on Sunday, August 26 at the church with a reception to follow.
