Denis Kevin Romeo, 70, of West Palm Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and humor that touched countless lives. Born on December 30, 1954, in Elkhart, Indiana, Denis spent his childhood living in various parts of Europe and Indiana with his family eventually making his home in Hendersonville, North Carolina. For the past seven years, he and his wife have lived in West Palm Beach to be close to their son, daughter in law and Grandson.
Denis attended Franklin College in Lugano Switzerland and finished his degree from Hillsdale College, Hillsdale Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education. He dedicated over 30 years of service to the Kenmure Country Club in Flat Rock, NC, where he was Head of Security Relations. Denis never met a stranger—he had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel seen, heard, and valued. It was once said that he could make even a bottle of water engage in conversation. His warm heart, quick wit, and unforgettable sense of humor brought joy and comfort to many.
A devout Christian, Denis read his Bible daily and truly lived out his faith. He found purpose in visiting the sick in assisted living and nursing homes, and he made it a point to invest time in the lives of children and neighbors alike—always with a smile, a tease, or a joke. He believed in the power of prayer and often quoted Philippians 4:6:
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.”
Denis was also a fierce competitor with a love for sports, especially basketball and tennis. In the last 10 years, pickleball became his passion, a sport he played with enthusiasm and joy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Cookie Romeo, his beloved son Adam Dionysius Romeo and his wife Cynthia, and his cherished grandson Raylan Emmitt Romeo, all of West Palm Beach, FL. He also leaves behind his sisters Karen Viser, her husband John and sister Gina Romeo of Cary, NC; and his brother Jeffrey Romeo and his wife Stacie of Sarasota, FL.
He also leaves behind numerous and much loved sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws , nieces and nephews.
Denis is preceded in death by his parents, Vincent John Romeo Sr. and Giuli Romeo along with his eldest brother, Vincent Romeo Jr.
A Catholic funeral will be held, and Denis’s ashes will be interred at the Lake Worth Memory Gardens Reflection Glass Niche, located at 3041 Kirk Rd, Lake Worth, FL 33461. A celebration of life and funeral will be planned at a later date.
Denis lived a life of faith, laughter, compassion, and generosity. He leaves behind a heartprint that will never fade.
