It was a sad day when I heard of Howard's passing.
Kathy and I have fond memories of good times we had with Howard and Darlene when we both lived in Chicagoland.

Dear Aunt Darlene, Lauren and Shannon;

My deepest condolences to you all.  A funny and kind-hearted man, that Uncle Howard.  I remember meeting him for the first time in Coram in 1974.  For a ten-year-old-kid who was more than a little awkward and introverted at the time, his gregariousness and quick wit left an immediate impression.  A good impression, as I could tell that beneath that funny and mischievous personality was a heart of gold.  And it was clear to me that he was someone who gave from his heart.  On the rare occasions we would see each other in the ensuing years, Uncle Howard always had a kind word for me.  And quiet words of wisdom.  When I was getting ready to graduate high school, he took the time to ask me about my future plans, and he advised me on different program options.  Not just a quick, passing comment.  A detailed, and lengthy conversation about the best private and state schools.  I remember him telling me that Hofstra would be a good choice for college.  The fact that he seemed genuinely interested in my future only echoed my initial impression that he was a good human being.

I remember when we were planning a surprise 62nd birthday party for my father, I made it a point to invite Aunt Darlene and Uncle Howard.  Even before I finished my first sentence with him on the phone, Uncle Howard very quickly said, We'll be there!   He made it a point to tell me how much he and Aunt Darlene cared for my Dad.  Then, thanks to a crazy snowstorm, I had to call everyone to say the party was cancelled.  Uncle Howard was adamant that he was still coming from Pennsylvania.  I remember him saying something along the lines of No bad weather is going to stop me from seeing your father.  That's the kind of person he was, and it's how I will remember him.

It goes without saying that my father really cared for Uncle Howard.  They were kindred spirits perhaps, on different levels.  Now they can both enjoy a couple of Martinis and Gin & Tonics together again.  And a lot of laughter.

Be well everyone, and rejoice in the good memories.  And in Uncle Howard's unbridled ability to seize the moment.

I lost my oldest brother and will miss him tremendously.  As a younger sibling, he teased me and made me cry; he also made me smile and laugh; and definitely made me proud to call him my brother.  I will carry him forever in my heart....and we will always be brother and sister.

I called him Mr. H.  He was a good friend and a very nice person to be with. I have known  Mr. H.  over 10 years, enjoyed his company and his humor. Marcia and lenny wish  Mr H. Bon voyage.

I knew and befriended Howard more than 10 years ago when we both were new
residents of CVWPB For 18 months we walked at 6 am together talking and getting some exercise until his knees slowed him up. I always discussed problems and business with him. I have lost my best friend and will miss him immensely

Howard, my older brother & friend will live in my mind forever. I was taught by Howard through his actions. He was a Senior Scout Leader, an Altar Boy, ordained Christian Brother and has a beautiful family. He taught me how to do everything, He helped me obtain my first job w/ NCR and  helped me getting into college. He helped me survive. I will miss Howard, every day of my life. I will always love my big brother, HOWIE......
