James Presley (Pete) Mitchell, 90 of North Palm Beach, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024. Husband of Mary Reid Mitchell and devoted father of Colleen (Scott) Smith, Catherine (Andrew) Stewart, Roger Mitchell, Carrie (Todd) Grant, Bill (Kimberly) Mitchell. A host of grand and great grandchildren, family and friends are left to celebrate his wonderful life.
Mr. Mitchell graduated from Lamar University and received a Masters from Rice University in Mechanical Engineering. In 1960, he moved his young family to Florida to work for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. Following retirement from Pratt, he worked as an industry liaison for The University of Miami. An avid golfer throughout his life, he also enjoyed exercising, particularly running and participated in numerous marathons. Following retirement his wife and he enjoyed many years of the equestrian life. He was loved and respected by many friends and colleagues for his wisdom, steadfastness and sense of humor.
He was, along with his wife, Mary, a charter member of 1st Presbyterian Church in North Palm Beach, where he served in many capacities within the church, as a faithful follower of the Lord.
Services will be held at 1st Presbyterian Church in North Palm Beach, 717 Prosperity Farms Road, NPB, 33408 at 11am, Saturday, July 13, 2024. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park, Tequesta, Florida.
