Captain Jay H. Bramson, USCGR(ret) died on Oct. 13, 2018. He was survived by his beloved wife Adelyn, 6 children and 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. A graduate of the Coast Guard Academy and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, he served tours in a North Pacific Patrol cutter, was C.O. of a Tendor in the Aleutians and Arctic/Chukchi seas, Ice observer and science office in the international ice patrol. Coast Guard Liason to the house and Senate Armed Service Committee at Headquarters.
After transferring to the Coast Guard reserves he served in a port security unit then commanded in succession, a mobilization Detachment, Port Security Unit. He co commanded a military sea lift command unit.
Selected to attend the Navy War college Sessions, the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and Sealift Command Senior officers School . He also chaired many Captain and Commander Selections and Retention Board and Commanded the 9CGD Mobilization Exercise during the 1950s and1960s.
Retired at his own request and 40 years of services, he will be missed by all who knew him as a gentlemen of the finest sense, trusted friend and all around good leader in both his military and civilian life
