Kathleen Culhane Atkinson

Kathleen Culhane Atkinson of Palm Beach, FL died peacefully on April 10, 2015 at Lourdes Noreen McKeen Skilled Nursing Facility, West Palm Beach after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of Joseph A. Atkinson for 64 years, loving mother of Suzanne Lake and her husband Douglas, Colette Kennedy and her husband William, and Denise Atkinson. She was predeceased by her sons, Joseph A. Atkinson, Jr. and James L. Atkinson. She is grandmother to: Jessica Lake Blouin, Douglas T. Lake, Jr., William J.L. Kennedy, Maria E. Kennedy, Margot Atkinson and great-grandmother to 6 children.

Kathleen and Joseph Atkinson lived their life on Long Island and in later years, New Canaan, CT and Palm Beach, FL. Kathleen was active in her children’s school, The Lawrence Country Day School. She was a member of the Garden Club of Lawrence (GCA) and a former Member of the Board of her alma mater, Mt. St. Vincent College, Riverdale, NY. The Atkinsons spent many fun-filled years skiing with their 5 children at the Windham Mtn. Club in Windham, NY. In later years, she served as Ladies Golf Chairman at The Everglades Club.

Kathleen was a former member of Rockaway Hunt Club, Lawrence Beach Club, Cedarhurst Yacht Club; The Wintergreen Club, Windham, NY; Darien Country Club; The Bath & Tennis Club; The Four Arts Society; and a current member of The Everglades Club and The Sailfish Club, Palm Beach, FL. She was an avid tennis player, golfer and skier, and she loved to play bridge!

Kathleen was a devoted wife and mother- loved by all who knew her for her kindness, good manners and great sense of humor. Kathleen and her husband, Joseph were partners in a lasting love that sustained them through life’s difficulties. Her husband was by her side supporting her daily through her long illness till the end of her life.

Visitation is Thursday, April 16, 2015 between 3:30- 6:30 at Quattlebaum’s Funeral Home, 5411 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach, FL 33417.

Memorial Service Mass on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel at Lourdes-Noreen McKeen Residence, 315 South Flagler Drive, West Palm Beach, FL 33401.
